1. Businessman Arrested In Bengaluru For Firing Gunshots During Birthday Party
Bengaluru police have arrested a local businessman for firing gunshots in the air during a birthday celebration. Central Crime Branch has arrested Syed Altaf Ahmed, a realtor from Bommanahalli, for this reckless act that took place on September 22 at a friend’s party. An incident has come to the fore after a video of Ahmed letting loose with his licensed pistol went viral on social media. Right after the video, law enforcement registered a suo-moto case against him.
The Bengaluru police have seized the weapons and ammunition, and are advising cancellation of Ahmed’s gun licence. Authorities say they are sounding increasingly alarmed at the misuse of firearms, particularly when licenced guns have been used. Many residents expressed their concern, stating: “Even if he had his gun licensed legally, using it here in such a public gathering is very dangerous and irresponsible.”
It brings to the fore larger issues that have to do with responsible ownership of firearms in public space, and also steps that have to be taken to ensure that this does not happen again in the future.
2. Claims of Israeli Troop Losses in Lebanon Under Scrutiny
Reports suggested that Israel was understating its loss of troops in the warfare in Lebanon. Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) incurred severe casualties in the ground operations in Lebanon up to several soldiers killed and sustaining serious injuries at least, a report by Press TV said. This contrasts with the reports by Israeli Army Radio, which admitted serious injuries but fewer losses.
The situation in Lebanon was volatile, such that there have been attacks initiated reportedly by Hezbollah that seemingly called for the immediate intervention of medical rescue teams. However, with conflicting reports from other media agencies, the true extent of the damage remains foggy.
Israel’s assault on Lebanon continues within the broader context of its military campaign, but increasing casualties may pose new challenges that the Israeli government will have to deal with in view of both the military and political impacts of this war.
3. JD(S) Leader HD Kumaraswamy Was Accused of Extortion and Threats
A case has been filed against former Karnataka Chief Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy for the alleged extortion and death threats given by Kumaraswamy and MLC Ramesh Gowda. The complaint, filed by JD(S) social media vice president Vijay Tata, has agitated the state’s political circles. According to Vijay Tata, Kumaraswamy and Ramesh Gowda demanded ₹50 crore as election expense for the Channapatna by-elections soon to be conducted.
In the complaint filed at Amruthahalli Police Station, Tata has apparently alleged that during a discussion over electoral funding, Kumaraswamy and Gowda had made threatening remarks. Distressed by the threat, Tata apparently had immediately reported the case to the authorities, drawing attention to the seriousness of the demands made. The case once again ignited a political row in the state as most are questioning the ethics and practice of such high-profile politicians during election seasons.
For the first time, this may not be; however, this case can prove to be very damaging legally and politically in the run-up to future elections.
4. Record-Breaking Real Estate Deal in Mumbai Suburb
A luxury apartment in Borivali suburb of Mumbai has fetched the highest price per square foot ever. A 4 BHK house in Wadhwa Group’s Aquaria Grande was sold at the whopping price of ₹14 crore, setting a new record for the area at ₹56,000 per square foot. The deal has been finalized by businessman Hemant Patil from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). It has now set a new benchmark for the property market in the Borivali area.”.
Earlier the north-city Mumbai’s northern suburbs had touched ₹48,800 per square feet with apartments fetched at Oberoi Sky City. However according to experts, the latest deal signals that the northern suburbs continue to gain in demand for luxury high-end residence and is mainly targeted as a relatively affordable area compared to the central parts of the city like Andheri and Dadar.
The stamp duty costs, for instance, were quite high at ₹84 lakh, pointing out the premium nature of this deal in real estate. Local brokers feel this sale might set the trend in property pricing across Mumbai’s outskirts.

9. RBI Would Likely to Maintain the Key Rates Unchanged in October Policy Meet
The RBI is likely to maintain its policy rate in the October monetary policy meeting, a recent report stated from Bank of Baroda. Having seen inflation ease below 4% in recent months, the central bank has, however, been said to be playing cautious – awaiting further clarity on long-term inflation trends – before making any changes.
This report, after stating the stabilization of food inflation, still awaits pre-mature policy actions to be delivered by the RBI. The added wait-and-watch approach has been due to global market volatility. Therefore, the Monetary Policy Committee will likely wait until at least December to effect rate cuts when a clearer sense of inflation, economic growth, and other parameters would have emerged.
This decision appears to be in line with the thinking of the RBI of balancing inflationary control in tandem with the necessity to support economic recovery post the pandemic.
