SBI Clerk Mains Admit Card 2025 Released for Upcoming Exam

The State Bank of India (SBI) released the admit cards for the Junior Associates Mains Exam 2025 on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, which is a major milestone for exam aspirants getting ready for this pivotal test. Prospective bankers are now able to download their hall tickets from the official SBI careers website at sbi.co.in/web/careers using their registration number and password.

The mains examination will be held on April 10 and April 12, 2025, after releasing initial exam results on March 28, 2025, which decided on the candidature of candidates reaching this level.

In order to go into the exam hall, candidates need to bring their authenticated initial exam call letter along with the mains admit card, along with a valid photo identification like a passport, Aadhar card, PAN card, driving license, voter’s card, or a bank passbook with a photograph.

SBI has clarified that absence of submitting a self-attested photocopy of the ID along with the call letter—or any hesitation regarding the identity of a candidate—will exclude them from appearing for the test. The mains exam of 2 hours and 40 minutes will contain 190 questions with a total of 200 marks, including General/Financial Awareness (50 marks), General English (40 marks), Quantitative Aptitude (50 marks), and Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude (60 marks), that will examine a wide range of skills required for banking positions.

Punjab Pastor Bajinder Singh Sentenced to Life in 2018 Rape Case

A court in Mohali handed down a landmark judgment on Tuesday, sentencing self-styled Punjab pastor Bajinder Singh to life imprisonment in an 2018 rape case in Zirakpur. The verdict, which came after he was convicted last week under Sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, has finally ended a traumatic experience for the victim. While Bajinder was hit with the brunt of the law, five of his co-accused, including pastors Jatinder and Akbar and Sattar Ali and Sandeep Pehalwan, were acquitted, leaving all the limelight on the much-controversial figure for his “Yeshu Yeshu” shouting. The victim, in a statement following the conviction, branded Bajinder a “psycho” who could reoffend and was relieved at his lifetime imprisonment, calling on the Director General of Police to take measures to secure other possible targets. The case had begun with a woman accusing Bajinder of attacking her in the name of sponsoring her emigration overseas and that he had taken compromising video footage to blackmail her. Notwithstanding criticism from his loyalists protesting his innocence, the court’s decision is a statement on the judicial process, underpinned by the victim’s campaigner, Anil Sagar, who had urged for a harsh punishment.

Redrafted Waqf Bill Includes All 25 JPC Recommendations

The National Democratic Alliance made public a revised Waqf (Amendment) Bill on Tuesday, to be debated in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, incorporating all 25 recommendations of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). This law revamps the Islamic charitable endowment framework, providing for non-Muslim membership on waqf boards and granting the government the authority to conduct land surveys, a step the government says addresses managerial issues, but which the Opposition cautions will undermine constitutional freedoms.

A central provision requires one to be an practicing Muslim for more than five years to donate property to waqf, restoring pre-2013 wording. The bill amends the controversial “waqf by user” provision—earlier to be retrospectively repealed—to extend only prospectively, protecting current registered waqf properties unless they are under dispute or owned by the government.

Waqf land surveys will now be carried out by officers above collector rank to stem frivolous claims, while new regulations guarantee women’s inheritance rights before property dedication, with special protection for widows, divorcees, and orphans. Also, the bill requires mutawallis to update property information on a central portal within six months, bringing more transparency in the administration of waqf.

Trump’s ‘Liberation Day’ Tariff Announcement Set for April 2

US President Donald Trump has designated April 2, 2025, as ‘Liberation Day,’ when he has promised a big tariff rollout in a 4 p.m. ET ceremony in the White House Rose Garden, referring to it as the ‘Make America Wealthy Again’ meeting. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the tariffs go into effect as of Thursday, with collections beginning then, though details are scarce beyond Trump’s statement that this will be “the big one.” The action heightens his running trade war, seeking to redefine the U.S. economy by imposing retaliatory duties equivalent to those on American exports, including subsidies and non-tariff barriers. Though Trump has indicated that all nations could be targeted, he’s also indicated willingness to negotiate exemptions after announcing them, suggesting a tactical adaptability. On March 31, he informed journalists the tariffs would be “nicer” and perhaps lower than foreign levels, keeping details in suspense until “two days.” Experts such as Morgan Stanley’s Mike Wilson interpret this as a negotiating ploy instead of an ultimate conclusion, expecting extended policy uncertainty while the U.S. negotiates trade agreements with more than 20 countries.

Hyderabad University Students Launch Indefinite Class Boycott

Students at Hyderabad University (UoH) began an indefinite class boycott on Tuesday, opposing the Telangana government’s proposal to auction 400 acres of Kancha Gachibowli land for an IT park through the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC). The protest, ignited by TGIIC’s clearing of land that started Sunday and continued up to Tuesday, had students protesting at the campus gate, condemning deforestation that poses a threat to 734 plant species, 220 bird species, and wildlife such as the Indian Star Tortoise. Akash Kumar, UoH Students’ Union vice president, called for a total stop on the project and the withdrawal of police and earthmovers, charging authorities with suppressing their right to protest outside the campus. The turmoil gathered steam after police arrested 55 students on Sunday, releasing 53 while remanding two—B Rohit Kumar and Erram Naveen Kumar—to judicial custody, setting the Congress-led state government’s development agenda further in flames.

  1. Mumbai Police Issue Third Summons to Kunal Kamra Over Shinde Remarks

Mumbai Police intensified their pursuit of comedian Kunal Kamra on Wednesday, serving him a third summons to appear on April 5 and explain derogatory comments about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde from his YouTube video “Naya Bharat.” The notice comes after Kamra did not reply to two earlier summons, during an investigation initiated by three complaints lodged at Khar Police Station—one by Jalgaon’s mayor and two by a Nashik hotelier and businessman. Authorities are investigating if Kamra’s satire is aimed at Shinde and other leading politicians, with officials threatening action if a trend is established. Although Kamra’s lawyer has made contact, the comedian himself has not been directly involved, ratcheting up tensions in a case that involves free speech against political sensitivities, generating much public interest.

  1. Shreyas Iyer’s Near-Miss Fifty Makes PBKS Triumph Over LSG Stand Out

Punjab Kings (PBKS) batsman Nehal Wadhera created a stir on his debut, hitting an unbeaten 43 off 25 balls to deliver a convincing victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Ekana Stadium, chasing down the target with 22 balls in hand. His fiery innings of four sixes and three fours came in the context of an unbeaten 67-run association with captain Shreyas Iyer, who contributed 52—his second straight fifty of the season. There was a dramatic moment when Wadhera’s 16-run over against Shardul Thakur left PBKS requiring only one run, almost depriving Iyer of his milestone, but a dot ball gave Iyer the opportunity to win the game and his fifty with a six. After the match, Wadhera explained to broadcasters that the dot was not deliberate, and he lauded the team’s collective effort in registering their second consecutive win.
