1. Major Donor Giveaways to Donald Trump and Kamala Harris

Data from Quiver Quantitative, compiled up to September 2024, reveals the largest contributions made to Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. Donald Trump’s contributors are mainly big corporate entities. American Airlines contributed $134,174, then Walmart $83,908, Boeing $82,761, and Lockheed Martin $69,552. These indicate that the donor base of Trump comes from airlines and defense industries.

Contrarily, the Kamala Harris campaign receives substantial support from the tech sector. The largest contributor to this sector is Google, accounting for $1,464,292, followed by Microsoft at $743,045. Major corporate donors include Brown & Brown, contributing $324,568, and Johnson & Johnson, contributing $239,394.

This information comes from Quiver Quantitative, a platform that was invented in 2022. The purpose of this was to bring Wall Street closer to everyday investors by informing them of corporate donations and what’s going on in the stock market. These donations are shaping the landscape of the U.S. presidential election for 2024 and give a massive edge to both Trump and Harris in campaign finances.

2. Munawar Faruqui Buys ₹6.09 Crore Apartment in Mumbai.

A prominent stand-up comedian, Munawar Faruqui, has invested a big chunk in the realty market of Mumbai with his most expensive apartment buy so far, which includes a luxurious ₹6.09 crore apartment in the under-construction Lodha Aura project at Wadala, developed by Macrotech Developers Limited. The details were obtained from property documents accessed by Square Yards.

That apartment is for 1,767.97 sq ft space, with three dedicated car parking. When registering the sale on September 16, 2024, Faruqui paid stamp duty worth ₹36.6 lakh, along with ₹30,000 as registration fees.

Lodha Aura, a 40-story tower, is the epitome of high-end 3 BHK and 4 BHK apartments with maximum amenities. Local brokers estimate that in the Wadala area, property rates run between ₹35,000 and ₹60,000 per sq ft, so much for Faruqui’s new pad. This purchase further cements the comedian’s growing stature in India’s entertainment and real estate sectors.

3. PM Modi refuses meeting with Donald Trump, snubs ‘Abki baar, Trump Sarkar’ moment.

In a rather unexpected conclusion to his three-day visit to the U.S., Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi left without meeting former President Donald Trump despite the latter’s earlier claims that they would be meeting soon. The former President had announced in a rally in Flint, Michigan that Modi would join his event on Long Island, reviving his 2016 campaign slogan with the Indian-American community: “Abki Baar, Trump Sarkar.”

In any case, India had, days ago branded the reported planned meeting as a fake one and even Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed to the media that any such meeting between Modi and the former US president is not on the visit program of Modi. Modi addressed both the UN’s Summit of the Future and the Indian-American community while attending the Quad Leaders’ Summit and meeting with U.S. tech giants.

It was Modi’s strategy to avoid meeting Trump as well as Kamala Harris and really brushed away hopes of a highly publicized “Trump-Modi” reunion.

4. JPMorgan’s Jamie Dimon Praises India’s Growth, Foresees $7-Trillion Economy by 2030.

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon expressed strong optimism over India’s economic path with projections that the country could reach a $7 trillion economy by 2030. Speaking during the JPMorgan Investor Conference in Mumbai, Dimon stressed that growth is a particularly positive feature for India, noting financial reforms and infrastructure development will drive this economic expansion.

He praised India’s efforts to increase financialization, streamline the GST system, and open further sectors of its economy to foreign investment. The words of Dimon echo a rising interest of global financial institutions in India as a new power in the world’s economy. JPMorgan has grown rapidly in the country, establishing a growth strategy intertwined with India’s fast-evolving business landscape.

5. Supreme Court Seeks Response from Income Tax Department Over Notices to Panel.

The Supreme Court of the country, while dealing with the case relating to sealing of residential premises illegally used for commercial purposes, has called for a response from the income tax department on issuance of notices issued to the Bhure Lal-led panel that is assisting the court in this process. The three-member committee, comprising retired Major General Som Jhingon and former bureaucrat Vijay Chhibber, claimed before the court that the notices issued were not maintainable.

The panel clarified that it did not earn revenue, and the fees collected for permanent de-sealing of properties were directly deposited with the Supreme Court registry. After going through the report of the panel, a bench headed by justices AS Oka and Pankaj Mithal called the concerned income tax officer for explaining the notices. The case has raised questions over the oversight by the income tax department in issuing such notices to judicial committees.

6. Chhaya Kadam Reacts on ‘All We Imagine As Light’ Being Sent Out for Oscars Submissions.

While she is thrilled at Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies being chosen as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025, actor Chhaya Kadam was disappointed that another of her films, All We Imagine As Light by Payal Kapadia did not make the cut. 7. BJP calls opposition alliance ‘Balatkari Bachao Alliance’ after encounter killing.

A heated political exchange took off on Tuesday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) branded the opposition INDIA bloc as the “Balatkari Bachao Alliance” or the Save Rapists Alliance a day after the encounter killing of Akshay Shinde, the main accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case. Shinde was shot dead by police after he allegedly snatched a policeman’s gun and fired at the officers.

The INDIA bloc has asked for an inquiry into the encounter, which they say may be into police excesses. Counter this, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed the opposition was celebrating the death of a criminal and a rapist while hailing the police action as relief to the citizens of Maharashtra and Badlapur.

Poonawalla also attacked the opposition for allegedly defending rapists in earlier cases, bringing to mind the highly publicized case of the RG Kar Medical College rape-murder in West Bengal. The political word war throws into sharp focus the on-going debate on the practice of law enforcement and delivery of justice in such high-profile criminal cases.

8. Odisha Government Forms Task Force to Combat Child Pornography.

The Odisha government has today announced the formation of an exclusive task force to probe and prosecute cases related to child sexual exploitation following an apex court decision on child pornography. It has reiterated its firm commitment to enforcing the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, which criminalizes downloading or watching child pornography.

The government said in its statement that better coordination among law enforcement agencies was needed and assured investments in support services for victims. This task force is likely to prove a bolster in the efforts of Odisha in restricting the spread of child pornography as well as protecting vulnerable children from exploitation.

Newly-elected President Anura Kumara Dissanayake reportedly has taken very stringent views on his country’s foreign policy, whereby he will not let Sri Lanka be “sandwiched” between China and India. The newly-elected President stated this in the pages of Monocle magazine. Referring to the global aspect, Dissanayake said the administration focuses on well-balanced relations with both countries and seeks to avoid entanglement in geopolitical rivalries.

The new prime minister, Dissanayake who took over after the previous occupant, Ranil Wickremesinghe, indicated that his was a government that would focus on cooperation with China and India but, at the same time, cooperate with European Union member nations, Middle East countries, and those in Africa. His statements highlighted the challenges for Sri Lanka as it resides between a multipolar world where great powers increasingly compete to affect influence in South Asia.
