1. Australia’s REA Group Makes Third Takeover Bid for Rightmove, Worth $8.1 Billion
Australian company REA Group, which aims to purchase the UK’s biggest property portal Rightmove, has improved its offer to 6.1 billion pounds ($8.12 billion). This will be the third attempt at acquisition for REA, in which Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp owns a 62% stake, having already made two offers rejected by Rightmove. The latest offer would price Rightmove at 770 pence per share, cash of 341 pence and 0.0422 new REA shares.
Despite such an attractive offer, Rightmove has no comment so far, and REA shares fell by 1.52% after such an announcement. REA CEO Owen Wilson is complaining about the board of Rightmove, which rejected the proposal for the second time run. According to analysts, this deal may considerably accelerate international expansion for REA since the size of the UK housing market is thrice that of Australia.
2. Another Robbery Suspect Shot Dead by UP Police in Unnao
Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has gunned down another accused in the ₹1.5 crore Sultanpur jewelry heist, which had occurred in late August. He has been identified as Anuj Pratap Singh. Singh was declared dead after being taken to the district hospital in an exchange of fire in Unnao, said ADG Amitabh Yash.
Singh, against whom the police had issued a bounty of ₹1 lakh, attempted to flee when the police tightened the noose around the locality. It could be heard that Singh was killed, whereas one of his associates managed to flee. Till date, eight suspects have been arrested in this robbery case, and the mastermind, according to the police, Vinay Singh, has already surrendered himself. The killing of suspects has drawn wide-ranging criticism, with opposition leader Akhilesh Yadav accusing the BJP government of selective targeting based on caste-a claim the UP police deny, insisting their actions are based strictly on evidence.
3. Nvidia CEO Hails PM Modi’s Vision for AI as ‘Great Opportunity’
Nvidia head Jensen Huang lavished praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his dedication to furthering India’s technology sector, especially in artificial intelligence (AI). He spoke of India as a country with incredible potential, filled with some of the brightest computer scientists in the world. Speaking in New York, Huang, one of the top executives of the company, who met Modi during a roundtable conference, said.
Huang described it as “India’s moment,” as the country now stands at a never-before achieved juncture to dominate AI innovation and manufacturing. He described Modi as an “incredible student” of technology, who was keen to embrace the full potential of AI to revolutionize Indian society and industries. Nvidia’s CEO further expressed optimism over forming deep partnerships with India in AI.
4. Techies Bypass BookMyShow Queue to Snag Coldplay Tickets Early
In view of the excitement gathering pace around Coldplay’s re-entry into India in January 2025, a section of tech professionals have been claiming to have booked their tickets before anyone else by using the “Inspect Element” feature on the BookMyShow portal. Three concerts have been scheduled for Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on January 18, 19, and 21 during the Music of the Spheres World Tour.
Fans have been left steaming about the now-longer wait times on virtual lines and what they are decrying as mismanagement by BookMyShow. However, tech-savvy folks like Archit Chauhan, who founded Crib and is a former Microsoft engineer, let the cat out of the bag when they candidly revealed a simple coding trick to bypass the waiting system, unleashing outrage from other concertgoers.
5. Ben Affleck ‘Trapped’ by Divorce from Jennifer Lopez Without Prenup.
Ben Affleck is said to be feeling “trapped” in his divorce from Jennifer Lopez because there was never a prenuptial agreement drawn up. As a result, it has been reported that Affleck is being coerced into remaining friendly throughout the divorce and taking no steps that might exacerbate the situation. Insiders say Affleck is at Lopez’s “mercy” as he is quite vulnerable without the legal safeguards of a prenuptial agreement.

6. Rohingya Refugees Share Harrowing Accounts of Escalating Violence in Myanmar.
Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh have discussed rising brutalities in Myanmar, where the military is still compelled to conscript young men from the persecuted Muslim minority. For instance, a young refugee named Syed, whose identity is changed by reporters for security reasons, narrated how he was conscripted to fight alongside the very military that had earlier dislodged his family from their homeland. He was among thousands of Rohingya members forcibly conscripted to fight against the Arakan Army, a rebel group in Myanmar.
He survived Myanmar’s refugee camps in Bangladesh, where he had been living for seven years. He defined the critical condition that has started in Myanmar with people going to bed at night with their hunger and next day deaths because of hunger as conflict rages on. The senseless violence has taken thousands of Rohingya to Bangladesh; this brings the total number of refugees already in Bangladesh close to one million.
7. Supreme Court Asks Parliament to Restate ‘Child Pornography’ as ‘Child Sexual Exploitative & Abuse Material.
The Supreme Court, giving a judgment setting aside a contentious ruling of the Madras High Court that said merely downloading and possessing explicit material involving minors is not a criminal offense, has urged Parliament to issue an ordinance replacing the term “child pornography” with “child sexual exploitative and abuse material” (CSEAM) in all relevant laws.
It concluded that the novel nomenclature would better describe the offence. The bench headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud further instructed all courts to refrain from giving the term ‘child pornography’ in judgments with the stern observation that children need better jurisprudence in this digital era.
8. SC Overturns Madras HC Decision, Labels Possession of Child Pornography as an Offence Only.
In a landmark judgment, the Supreme Court Monday set aside a Madras High Court ruling which held that downloading and watching child pornography was not an offense. The top court ruled that mere possession of such material is a crime under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
The court asked the Parliament to introduce an amendment to POCSO Act by replacing the term “child pornography” with “Child Sexual Exploitative and Abusive Material.” The distinguishing bench also noted that the government needs to promulgate an ordinance until the legislation is brought about on this lacuna in the law.
9. Bengaluru Entrepreneur Highlights Lack of Trays at Airport Security After Nearly Missing Flight.
Bengaluru-based entrepreneur Sanjay Swamy, frustrated over being struck by a shortage of luggage trays at Kempegowda International Airport’s Terminal 2 and missing his international flight by just a whisker, took to social media to express his frustration. Swamy said that the absence of trays caused delays at the security check while passengers waited for some time to put their luggage on the trays and, finally, he was only able to make it to his flight.
Bengaluru Airport responded on X, saying they will surely get back to him regarding this. Many fellow passengers agreed with Swamy, claiming similar delays were caused on a similar day due to a tray shortage at the airport and urged the airport to make some slight improvements so that panic reduces during security checks .
10. Italy Begins Celebrity-Rich Femicide Trial After Barbaric Student Killing.
It was only the case of Filippo Turetta, accused of the brutally violent murder of his former girlfriend, 22-year-old university student Giulia Cecchettin, which started in Italy and again brought to the fore very disturbing statistics on femicide in the country. Giulia Cecchettin disappeared after being attacked by Turetta; the latter had since confessed to the murder.
The body of Cecchettin was discovered days later, with over 70 stab wounds inflicted on the murdered victim. Murders like this have sent shock waves throughout Italy. Activists here are demanding a change in the culture that will stop this gender-based violence in the country. Demonstrations have been held across the cities of this nation on November 25, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
11. Samajwadi MP’s Son Booked for Kidnapping and Robbery in Ayodhya.
Son of Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad, Ajit Prasad, has been booked on charges of kidnapping, assault and robbery at Ayodhya. A local property dealer, Ravi Tiwari, lodged a complaint alleging that a group of men, led by Ajit, kidnapped and assaulted him, snatched ₹1 lakh from his pocket, and threatened to kill him.
Reports have it that the skirmish started over a land deal dispute. Contesting a by-election in the Milkipur constituency near Ayodhya, Ajit Prasad is still to issue any statement on the incident.
12. Body of Aspirant Found in Mukherjee Nagar, Homicide Suspected.
A body of UPSC civil services aspirant from Rajasthan was found hidden inside bushes at Mukherjee Nagar in Delhi. Suspicion of suicide is attached to the incident, and the youth had been missing for several days before police discovered his body. Investigations are underway, and no suicide note has been found.
This is yet another heart-wrenching incident similar to the one that surfaced last month, in which another UPSC aspirant was found hanging in Lucknow. The issue of both of these cases raised questions about the amount of pressure built by such students who prepare for the Civil Services Exam.
13. Bihar Teen Pays ₹2 Lakh to Become ‘IPS Officer’ Without Taking Exam.
A Bihar boy paid Rs 2 lakh to become an IPS officer in a strange incident. Mithilesh Kumar wanted to be an IPS officer. Manoj Singh deceived him into an IPS scam promising him the IPS title for some money.
Kumar, dressed in IPS uniform, approached the local police station, with a pistol in hand. And some of the police officers there made light of the incident and greeted him thus: “Sir, IPS.” They broke that racket too; they realized that all was false-representations-the uniform and the title.
14. Diddy Allegedly Sells Controversial ‘Freak Off’ Tapes for $500 Million on Dark Web.
SHOCKING allegations from Jaguar Wright that mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs sold dark web tapes of his infamous ”freak off” parties to the tune of half a billion dollars. The tapes-according to sources close to Wright-feature ”freak off” bashes with high-powered celebrities, but there’s nothing evident that suggests any wrongdoing by the stars in the shenanigans caught on tape.
Having sex trafficking and sexual assault charges is already serious, and Diddy had denied the allegations. The salacious events reportedly on the tapes are linked to his infamous parties; in fact, it has been a central focus of his legal battles that remain pending.
15. Karan Johar Misses Out on Coldplay Tickets, Reflects on ‘Privilege’.
As the much-awaited return of Coldplay to India approaches, filmmaker Karan Johar revealed he could not even get a ticket to their Mumbai concerts. Taking to Instagram, he sarcastically posted how “privilege” does not guarantee everything, after failing despite his status.
Coldplay recently added a third Mumbai concert date because of immense demand. Yet, complaints of website crashes and long virtual queues mar the sale of tickets, frustrating fans who wait with bated breath to see the British rock band live in 2025.
