  1. Election Results 2024 Updates: Mahayuti Leads in Maharashtra and NDA Ahead in Jharkhand

The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is on track for a dominant victory in Maharashtra, holding leads in over 200 seats as the counting progresses. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the NDA edges ahead of the JMM-led INDIA bloc in a tight race.

The BJP is leading in 127 constituencies of Maharashtra and 26 in Jharkhand, according to the updates given by Election Commission of India. The Mahayuti alliance comprising BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP currently commands leads in 221 of Maharashtra’s 288 assembly seats. On the other hand, Maha Vikas Aghadi lags behind with leads in just 55 seats.

Trends in Jharkhand show the NDA still in a strong position, ahead in 50 of the 81 assembly seats. The INDIA bloc trails with leads in 28. With a majority mark of 41, the postal ballots counted so far give the NDA a possibly decisive edge.

Maharashtra voted on November 20, whereas Jharkhand held polls in two phases on November 13 and November 20. The final verdict is likely to be declared later today.

  1. Sony Strikes Broadcast Rights Deal for Asia Cup Through 2031 End

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has snapped up the Asia Cup broadcasting rights for the next eight years between 2024 and 2031. The deal is reportedly 70% more valuable than the previous cycle.

Sony has emerged as the sole bidder after Jio-Star opted not to participate in the e-auction conducted at Dubai and thereby won all Men’s and Women’s Asia Cups editions, Under-19 tournaments, and Emerging Teams events for a price of $170 million.

Four editions of the Asia Cup would be featured during this rights cycle, which is to switch between ODIs and T20s. The edition in 2025 will be hosted by India for T20; Bangladesh will host it in 2027, again for ODIs; Pakistan in 2029; and Sri Lanka in 2031, for both ODI formats.

Asian Cricket Council Chairman Jay Shah expressed confidence in Sony’s ability to deliver quality coverage with depth and sophistication that promises an elevated viewing experience for fans on multiple platforms.

It was supposed to be a joyous celebration as the wedding ceremonies were going on in Andhra Pradesh. But then came the tragic turn of events. An Amazon employee named Vamsi suffered a fatal cardiac arrest while greeting the bride and groom on stage.

The incident occurred in Penumada village of Kurnool. Vamsi, who came to the wedding from Bengaluru, got up to give a gift to the newlyweds when he suddenly lost balance and fell down.

He was declared brought dead at Dhone City Government Hospital. The doctors diagnosed the death as a result of cardiac arrest. The medical fraternity has been warning of an alarming surge in sudden cardiac arrest cases among young people.

The Karnataka government is accelerating plans for Bengaluru’s second international airport, with site selection nearing completion. This move aims to address growing concerns over delays and competition from Tamil Nadu’s proposed greenfield airport in Hosur, located just 35 kilometers away.

Initially, seven potential sites had emerged following a study by consulting firm Idec. Bypolls and elections had thus stalled progress, but the Infrastructure Department is now finalizing the proposal for submission to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
