The ‘Biggest’ Stories in World and Indian Headlines – November 14, 2024
1 – Tulsi Gabbard, Trump’s New Cabinet Pick, Known for Strong Stand Against Pakistan Army on Hindu Rights
President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet has taken a bold step with the appointment of Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence. This first Hindu Congresswoman who raised her profile raising a voice for Hindu minorities in Pakistan and Bangladesh, mainly persecuted there, can be counted as one of the several cabinet picks coming from his quota.
Gabbard’s observation of Hindu values really traces back to the generations of history where Hinduism is practiced in her family; she took an oath to Congress on the Bhagavad Gita. Her political history is characterized by a good number of identified actions, including a 2021 resolution condemning genocide perpetrated against Hindus in Bangladesh while focusing on atrocities committed by the Pakistani army in 1971. Gabbard called for the U.S. to stop military aid to Pakistan, criticizing the country’s reported links with militant groups in the area. Now, being DNI, her role might steer American foreign policy on religion and international security to become harmonized with the aforementioned values much better.
2 – “Kanguva”: First reviews praise Suriya’s fantastic role but execution of this film get mixed reviews.
Now, fans of actor Suriya were excited to experience something spectacular with the film Kanguva, which is directed by Siva and stars Bobby Deol and Disha Patani. Released on November 14, it’s been garnering wholesome initial reviews, praising Suriya’s two roles and the film’s grand visual effects.
While many fans appreciate the effort that has gone into making the film, they feel that the lengthy storyline of the movie is too taxing. One viewer called it a “decent action drama” where some points are high, such as its stunning scene in which a crocodile kills a man, though summarised that at times the film was very draining. Yet another fan pointed out a surprise cameo and appreciated the costume designing of the film, which at times, it is excited and much a visual treat to one’s eyes.

Social media influencer Sufi Motiwala also shared a video of the event in which he asked both women to rate each other’s looks. Isha obediently said she would give her mom’s style a perfect “10 out of 10.” Nita was saying all the right things, admitting she only “wears what she likes” and “doesn’t work with a stylist.”
5 – Heavy Police Force Called in After Tonk Bypoll Turns Violent Over Confrontation Involving Candidate Naresh Meena

The violence resulted in the arrest of 60 people and paved the way for police forces to rush in the heavy machinery to ascertain order. Meena defended his actions stating that he was provoked by the SDM and even added that his supporters were attacked by the police first .
6 – John Thune Becomes New Senate Majority Leader as McConnell Steps Down
John Thune has officially stepped into the shoes of Mitch McConnell as the new Senate Majority Leader and moved into Senate leadership dynamics. The man who surpassed John Cornyn and Rick Scott to gain the position promised to support all policy initiatives by President Trump.
Though Scott had much support from the pro-Trump side, Thune’s more moderate approach pleased a larger circle in the Republican Party. This win forecasted a blend of traditional republic value but allowed for an openness to a broader interpretation from Trump’s policies. The Senate now looks ready to be assertive yet well-balanced.
7 – Ramandeep Singh Makes T20I Debut for India with Positive Welcome from Hardik Pandya
Coming after all the IPL success, Ramandeep Singh came to play a cameo for India when he made his T20I debut for India in the third T20I against South Africa. Hardik Pandya was handing over the debut cap to him when Ramandeep seemed confident and poised as he went out in the field.
Ramandeep, taking all the limelight with his aggressive hitting and smart fielding, proved himself as an all-rounder in IPL 2024, and one remembers his majestic catch to send LSG back that even gained him “Catch of the Season”. Fans would hope he brings that fire and width to the Indian national team.
8 – Rinku Singh Can Be the Next KKR Skipper and Replace Shreyas Iyer
The impending arrival of the IPL 2025 Auction has compelled the Kolkata Knight Riders to think seriously about Rinku Singh for the position of skipper. Shreyas Iyer’s release and decision could have been a factor here too. Since he first came into the team in 2018, Rinku has been a revelation and an asset for the team with his consistency and experience.
They retained their key assets, like Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, but with limited resources, an Indian skipper could be a safer guess for KKR in the guises of Rinku than an expensive replacement. Rinku, who has been a regular with KKR and an Indian T20I player at the moment, would do justice to his long association with the franchise by responding well to the prospect of their being skipper.
9 – Marco Jansen Smashes Fastest T20I Fifty For Any Country Against India
South Africa right-handed batter Marco Jansen continued to set new highs. For the third T20I of the four-match series against India, he became the first batter to have the fastest T20I fifty for South Africa against India, his 17-ball 54 coming with five sixes and four fours at a strike rate of 317.65.
Jansen continued his aggressive batting towards the end of the game, keeping South Africa in the contest at SuperSport Park. This has been a closely fought series after all.
10 – Arshdeep Singh becomes India’s second wicket-taker in the T20I format
Pacer Arshdeep Singh has managed to find himself in the list of taking the second wickets for India in men’s T20Is with his exceptional show against South Africa at Centurion. He grabbed the second position with 92 wickets behind the record of Yuzvendra Chahal. This could be one of the greatest breakthroughs for Arshdeep Singh and making his way for further history.
A sharp spell of four-over bowling from Arshdeep saw India to an 11-run win as the bowler conceded just 37 runs. His achievement crystallises his place in India’s T20 lineup as the team moves forward to yet another international competition.
