After going on the run for years, fugitive entrepreneur Mehul Choksi has been detained in Belgium at the behest of Indian law enforcement. Choksi, notorious for his suspected role in the Punjab National Bank’s giant ₹13,500 crore loan fraud, was living in Antwerp with his wife after he obtained a residency card. His detention, which happened on Saturday, comes after India made a formal extradition request to Belgian authorities.
After Interpol Red Notice was withdrawn against Choksi, the CBI as well as the Enforcement Directorate increased pressure for extradition. Significantly, Associated Times—a Caribbean-focused news platform—earlier confirmed the whereabouts of Choksi. With this significant breakthrough, the Indian government moves closer to hauling one of India’s most wanted fugitives into court.

Controversy arose recently when a video emerged featuring the principal of Laxmibai College, which is part of Delhi University, using cow dung on classroom walls as a heat regulation experiment. The initiative was the brainchild of an ongoing academic research project to identify traditional Indian means of temperature regulation, explained Principal Pratyush Vatsala.
The video, which was circulated in a WhatsApp group of teachers, soon became viral, resulting in polarized reactions. Although Vatsala justified the project as scientific and based on environmentally friendly principles, skeptics were inquiring about the use of cow dung in a contemporary educational institution.
