The air quality in Delhi-NCR has breached the “Severe Plus” threshold, prompting an immediate lockdown-like response from authorities. With the AQI hitting 459 this morning, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has invoked GRAP Stage-IV restrictions.
If you live in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, or Ghaziabad, here is exactly how this impacts your Monday morning.
The most confusion lies around vehicle bans. Here is the official rule set under Stage-IV:
Note: The ban applies to the entire NCR region, not just Delhi city limits. Police checkpoints have been set up at the borders of Noida and Gurugram.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued revised guidelines for schools in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad:
Nursery to Class 5: Schools remain closed (classes shifted to Online Mode) as per previous orders.
Class 6 to Class 9 & Class 11: Schools have been directed to conduct classes in “Hybrid Mode” (offering both online and physical options).
Parental Advisory: Check your school’s specific WhatsApp notification today. Many private schools in Noida have voluntarily opted for 100% online classes for all non-board students.

To reduce vehicular pollution, the government has issued the following directives:
Govt Offices: Shall operate at 50% capacity. The remaining staff will work from home.
Private Offices: The CAQM has urged private companies in Gurugram and Noida to implement a 50% WFH policy until the AQI drops below 400.
Doctors at AIIMS and Apollo Hospital have flagged a sharp rise in “Walking Pneumonia” cases among children due to the toxic smog.
Symptoms: Persistent dry cough (>5 days), low-grade fever, and wheezing.
Advice: Avoid morning walks. Use N95 masks if you must travel. Use air purifiers indoors if possible.
Why Kids are Vulnerable: Children breathe faster than adults, taking in more pollutants relative to their body size.
Symptoms to Watch:
Persistent dry cough lasting >5 days.
Wheezing or “whistling” sound while breathing.
Fatigue and low-grade fever.
Precaution: Avoid outdoor play during early morning and late evening when smog is heaviest. Use N95 masks if travel is unavoidable.
While Stage-III banned private construction, Stage-IV extends this ban to public infrastructure projects.
