1. Liam Payne Died at 31; Simon Cowell in the Cross-Hairs
The music world, fans, and social media are in shock after the death of Liam Payne at the age of 31. The former One Direction artist died after falling from his hotel room in Argentina. Fans and colleagues were quick with the tributes, but not so with Simon Cowell and his musical tribute. Cowell, who first found One Direction on The X Factor and signed them to their first record deal, made an emotional tribute on Instagram, saying Liam was “kind, funny, sweet, and talented.”.
However, Cowell had to shut the comments as fans started accusing him of also being part of the event that exploits the band. Many believe that Cowell and the industry failed to protect One Direction members from the overwhelming pressures of fame. Some fans were even furious with the role played by Cowell. According to them, he “profits from their struggles” but hasn’t shown enough support towards them. It adds on to the never-ending debate on the mental health effects on young stars in the music world.

Argentina authorities said Liam Payne, former One Direction singer who died after falling from the balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, was actually under the influence of a dangerous hallucinogenic drug called Cristal when his life was cut short. Sources say that Payne was struggling with substance abuse for a while before he died.
Cristal, which is known to cause users such extreme highs and erratic behavior, is suspected to have caused Payne to commit fatal acts. According to police reports, Payne’s erratic conduct in the hours leading up to his death may have been caused by the effects of this drug. The singer had spent time in rehab but continued to struggle with addiction, which reportedly led to his being dropped by his record label earlier this year.
3. Germany to Recruit Indian Workers to Fill Labour Gap
Germany is going all out to recruit more skilled Indians to fill the much-needed labor force. The government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz sanctioned 30 programs, which would be used to attract professionals in healthcare, IT, and engineering in an effort to hold off the waning population gap left by Germany’s aging population. “India represents a young workforce, thus, a solution for us,” the state secretary for culture and media, Niels Annen, said.
The German Government, on the other hand, is opening up doors to allow more immigrants, which is one difference compared with countries like Canada, the UK, and New Zealand, which are tightening immigration policies. The Indian worker, especially those in technical fields, excels so well that this partnership could work wonders for both countries; balancing out the labor needs of Germany and creating new working opportunities for India’s growing workforce. Scholz, along with other government officials, is reportedly coming to India shortly to make Germany an attractive country for skilled workers.

Sarfaraz’s hundred comes at a good time for India, who were routed in the first innings at 46. His gritty effort has once again buoyed hopes of an Eden Gardens-type turnaround, as the side now looks to set a task for the visitors in the second innings. Sarfaraz’s hundred has been a testament of his perseverance and skill, as he cashed in on the opportunity that had come his way after Shubman Gill’s injury.
6. Former RAW Officer Vikash Yadav Detained over Pannun Case
Former RAW officer Vikash Yadav of India was detained by the Delhi Police for his alleged involvement in a case of extortion related to pro-Khalistani leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Yadav’s detention has come after just a few days when the FBI issued a wanted poster implicating him in a botched plot to kill Pannun in the United States.

Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell accused Meta of violating consumer protection laws and creating a public health crisis. Meta had looked to get the case dismissed as it had prayed on Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which would protect it from liability. But its luck was not so good, as the court decided that it was indeed a case that would move forward since this presented a new challenge to the company’s history in courts.
9. Bomb Threat to Air India Express Flight Lands Safely in Jaipur
An Air India Express flight from Dubai to Jaipur, with 189 passengers and crew members on board, was diverted in mid-air as an email threatened a bomb explosion in four hours. The aircraft, carrying the passengers and crew from Dubai to Jaipur, was safely landed at the international airport in Jaipur and thoroughly searched by security forces, who reported no shady article found inside.
This is the latest in a series of bomb threats that have been issued against Indian airlines. The last one week alone has seen the diversion or delay of quite some flights due to these and similar threats. The officials have already banned several social media accounts, which have been indulging in these threats, and the authorities are investigating into these incidents to avoid such interference in future. Such continued threats have put pressure on aviation, which has heightened security and become operationally challenging.
10. Bomb Threat Hoaxes Take a Toll on Indian Airlines
This weekend saw a spate of bomb threat hoaxes cause a huge ruckus for Indian airlines, resulting in significant financial losses for them. As an example, a social media bomb threat forced London-bound Vistara flight to divert to Frankfurt. Incidents appear to follow a pattern from the past few days, affecting nearly 40 flights.
Their estimates of the costs of these threats run into crores of rupees in operational expenses such as unscheduled landings, passenger accommodations, and fuel dumping. For example, a flight from Mumbai to New York had to dump over 100 tonnes of fuel to ensure it landed safely. That fuel now lies wasted to the tune of ₹1 crore or $120,000. And the losses run into crores every day as the authorities try to track down the people behind these hoax threats.
