Strong Tremors Shake Delhi-NCR Due to Shallow Earthquake
Residents of Delhi-NCR woke up to strong tremors early Monday morning as a 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck the region at around 5:30 AM. The tremors were particularly intense in high-rise buildings across Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad, causing people to rush out of their homes in alarm. Later in the morning, another earthquake was reported in Bihar at around 8 AM, further unsettling residents.
Experts attribute the noticeable intensity of the tremors in Delhi to the proximity of the epicenter, which was located near Jheel Park in Dhaula Kuan, at a depth of just five kilometers. Seismic waves are strongest at their origin and weaken as they spread outward, meaning that the closer an area is to the epicenter, the stronger the tremors. Given the earthquake’s shallow depth, the impact was even more pronounced. Shallow earthquakes tend to cause more intense ground shaking as their energy has less distance to travel before reaching the surface. While no reports of injuries or structural damage have been confirmed, the incident has raised concerns about the seismic vulnerability of high-rise structures in the capital.
South Korean Actress Kim Sae-ron Found Dead at Home in Seoul
