Veteran actor of Bollywood Deb Mukherjee, who was the father of director Ayan Mukerji, died at the age of 83 following age-related complications. His last rites were performed on Saturday when some Bollywood stars had gathered to offer their condolences. One among them was Ranbir Kapoor, who shortened his Alibaug vacation to accompany his close buddy Ayan.
A touching but poignant scene taken at the funeral was Ranbir Kapoor acting as a pallbearer and putting Deb Mukherjee’s body on his shoulders. A viral photo from the ceremony is of Ranbir wearing a plain white top and blue denims, solemnly marching along with Ayan and other relatives.
Ranbir and Ayan are close friends, having worked on several movies such as Wake Up Sid, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva. Ranbir had just recently confirmed that Brahmāstra: Part Two is in development, while Ayan is now busy directing War 2.
Some of the top Bollywood stars, such as Anil Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Kajol, and Jaya Bachchan, dropped by Ayan’s house to offer their last respects to the deceased actor.
Deb Mukherjee was not only a veteran actor but also a respected member of the illustrious Samarth-Mukherjee family. He was the father-in-law of director Ashutosh Gowariker, which provided another cinematic touch to his name.
The Russo brothers’ The Electric State, featuring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, has a lot riding on it but disappoints in its inability to produce that magic. An adaptation of Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel, the movie tries for a Spielbergian sense of awe but ends up leaving everyone drained.
One of the biggest criticisms leveled against The Electric State is the inflated runtime, which takes a lot longer than its two-hour length. Despite its hefty production cost—one that has been rumored to exceed the combined cost of several Oscar-winning films—The Electric State is not very original.
Chris Pratt stars as Keats, a Han Solo-type character, who partners up with Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown) in a post-apocalyptic world. Alas, the acting can’t do much to make an otherwise formulaic screenplay work by relying on conventional tropes and unimpressive CGI. Not even Anthony Mackie, playing a robotic friend, and Colman Domingo, making a brief appearance, manage to infuse the film with any kind of life.
Adding to the disappointment, the film’s visual aesthetic feels too reminiscent of the Russo brothers’ previous works like The Gray Man and Citadel. Alan Silvestri’s score, though competent, seems to recycle themes from Avengers: Endgame, making the film feel like an algorithm-driven production rather than a creative endeavor.
In spite of efforts at humor and commentary on such themes as AI, class inequality, and post-9/11 paranoia, The Electric State fails to make a lasting impression. Rather than reviving the Russo brothers’ post-Marvel career, it only solidifies their present woes in the industry.
Kia is preparing to launch a facelifted variant of its best-seller MPV, Carens, in April 2025. The updated model will be available alongside the current Carens and will have a new suffix added to its name to distinguish it from the current one.
With this update, Kia aims to position the facelifted Carens at a more premium level, pushing its top-end variant beyond the ₹20 lakh mark. This pricing strategy mirrors that of Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga and XL6, which cater to different market segments despite belonging to the same vehicle category.
Spy photos of the new Carens show a more muscular, SUV-inspired look with updated lighting, possibly inspired by Kia’s recent models, such as the Seltos. It is also speculated that the facelifted model might not have the 115hp 1.5-liter petrol engine available in the lower trims of the existing model. Nevertheless, the high-performance 160hp turbo-petrol and 116hp diesel engine options are likely to be available on both versions.
By adding this facelifted model to its MPV range and a future electric model, Kia is looking to strengthen its position in the family car market to serve both cost-conscious and premium customers.
Indian national and doctoral student at Columbia University Ranjani Srinivasan has departed the United States after her visa was canceled by the Trump administration. The departure followed accusations that she had participated in pro-Palestinian campus protests the government claimed were aimed at advocating for Hamas.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released video of Srinivasan at an airport, verifying that she had chosen “self-deportation” on March 11, after her F-1 visa was revoked on March 5.
The crackdown on Palestinian activism at Columbia University has become more aggressive in recent weeks, with the Trump administration opening up investigations into whether the university was sheltering undocumented immigrants. This resulted in raids at two university dormitories by DHS agents, although no one was arrested.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche asserted that the visa revocation is a part of the administration’s efforts to combat antisemitism and extremism within the U.S. Officials, however, have not made evidence of Srinivasan’s direct connection to violence or terrorism public.
As a reaction, Columbia University has suffered stringent penalties, such as the cancellation of $400 million of federal funding. This is viewed as a punitive action for the institution’s failure to restrain anti-Israeli sentiments among students and faculty.
Even though Srinivasan has since departed the U.S., the wider implications of this crackdown are still being revealed, provoking questions on free speech, student activism, and the extent of federal immigration policies in academic circles.
NASA and SpaceX have successfully launched the Crew-10 mission, which will replace astronauts who are already deployed on the International Space Station (ISS), including Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore.
The crew launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, with four astronauts: NASA’s Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, JAXA’s Takuya Onishi, and Roscosmos’ Kirill Peskov. They will relieve Crew-9, who have been on the ISS for nine months.
Crew-9, which includes Sunita Williams, Butch Wilmore, and two additional astronauts, will be back on Earth by March 19, after a brief handover period. This represents an important milestone for the cooperative efforts between NASA and SpaceX to provide a smooth rotation of personnel onboard the ISS.
The Crew-10 launch was originally delayed by a technical malfunction of the rocket’s hydraulic system. Upon successful debugging, the mission continued with an almost flawless 95% positive weather window.
This new launch highlights SpaceX’s increasing involvement in space travel, as NASA increasingly depends on private-sector collaborations for human spaceflight. With additional missions on the horizon, the partnership between the two entities continues to define the future of space exploration.
In a scathing counterattack at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), India condemned Pakistan for its continued mention of Jammu and Kashmir, terming it an attempt to legitimize its continued sponsorship of cross-border terrorism.
India’s UN Permanent Representative, Ambassador P Harish, condemned Pakistan’s statement strongly, pointing out that such an allusion will not change the reality of Jammu and Kashmir being a part of India. Addressing a UNGA informal session on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, Harish asserted that Pakistan’s assertion will neither get legitimacy nor will it erase its past history of religious intolerance.
“Fanatical temperament of this country is quite familiar, as is its history of bigotry,” Harish stated in a rebuttal of a speech by Pakistan’s erstwhile foreign secretary, Tehmina Janjua. The Indian diplomat blamed Pakistan for inflaming religious tensions and highlighted that the fight against Islamophobia should be a part of a broader action to eradicate discrimination across all religious groups.
Harish appealed to the international community to treat religious minorities fairly, emphasizing the need for education against bigotry. At the end of his remarks, he appealed for everyone to work together to bring about a world where all people of faith can live in harmony with each other, without persecution.
India has rejected Pakistan’s attempts to globalize the Kashmir dispute, reiterating that it is an internal issue.
A road accident in Gujarat’s Vadodara, which killed a woman and injured four others, has taken a new turn with the accused driver Rakshit Chaurasia refuting that he was drunk when the accident occurred. The accident, which happened late at night near Muktanand crossroads, resulted in Chaurasia’s on-the-spot arrest by local police.
Eyewitnesses on the scene said Chaurasia seemed to be drunk, yelling “another round, another round” when he got out of the car. The 23-year-old law student insisted that he skidded out of control after hitting potholes on the road while traveling at 50 kmph.
“The vehicle lost control as a result of the potholes on the road. It was an automatic car, and when the airbags exploded, I got frightened and struck the accelerator pedal by mistake instead of the brake pedal,” he said. He also regretted his actions and termed his apology to the victim’s family as an understatement and said he is willing to meet them.
The deceased, Hemali Patel, was on her scooter when the crash occurred. Chaurasia was driving a car belonging to a friend, and his fellow traveler, Mit Chauhan, ran away from the scene but was subsequently traced by the police.
The government has initiated an official inquiry, examining CCTV and conducting a medical test to establish whether alcohol contributed to the accident.

Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has entered the debate over India’s perceived advantage in the Champions Trophy, rejecting claims that the team gained an unfair advantage by playing all its matches in Dubai.
The fuss was first raised by Australian skipper Pat Cummins, who opined that India gained an advantage by hosting all their group-stage matches at a single venue. His remark was followed by a number of former English cricketers and Australian media, who argued that the credibility of the tournament was impacted.
But Starc disputed this claim, pointing out that cricketers all over the world have the chance to play across different franchise leagues and adapt to different conditions. “I don’t think it is an advantage as such because as cricketers we’ve got all the chance to play in a lot of different franchise leagues around the world, but Indian guys can only play for the IPL,” Starc explained to Fanatics TV.
He pointed out that foreign players often play in different countries’ leagues, which exposes them to more varied playing conditions compared to what players in one country might have. Starc’s words bluntly deflated the criticism, reaffirming that India’s Champions Trophy win was properly deserved on the basis of skill and performance and not based on location advantages.
Cristiano Ronaldo extended his brilliant run in the Saudi Pro League with an early strike in Al Nassr’s 3-1 win over Al Kholood on Saturday. The game, at Al Awwal Park in Riyadh, was a first-half masterclass from Al Nassr’s attack front of Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, and Jhon Duran.
Ronaldo scored in the fourth minute, taking advantage of a rebound off a save by Al Kholood goalkeeper Marcelo Grohe from a first shot by Duran. The goal was Ronaldo’s 19th of the season, boosting his tally as the league’s top scorer.
Al Nassr widened the margin with a quick counterattack led by Ronaldo, whose pass picked full-back Salem Al-Najdi. His cross reached Mane, who easily converted it into the net. At the stroke of halftime, Jhon Duran scored a third goal, curving a low shot through the defense of the opposition.
In spite of Al Nassr’s superiority, the second half saw some trouble as Nawaf Boushal was given a red card after two yellow cards in ten minutes. Al Kholood took advantage of the one-man advantage and scored in the 70th minute when Jackson Muleka’s shot rebounded off Ali Lajami into the net.
Despite having ten men, Al Nassr stuck to their guns to record an easy victory, narrowing the margin between them and league leaders Al Ittihad. With Ronaldo at the forefront, Al Nassr is still very much in the running for the league title.
