1. Anil Arora, Malaika Arora’s Daddy, Who Was Anil Arora? His Unforgettable Story
Recently, Bollywood sensation Malaika Arora was faced with a tragic personal loss due to the passing away of her father, Anil Arora, who succumbed to tragic circumstances on September 11, 2024. As per reports, Anil Arora committed suicide, an incident which sent shockwaves that sent Malaika’s family and the public into grief.
The late Anil Arora, born and brought up in Fazilka, a small border town in Punjab, belonged to the Indian Merchant Navy and had an extremely long and illustrious career. He had earned respect due to his professional commitments among his community and family. Arora was married to Joyce Polycarp-a Malayali Christian-which generally was an example of marriage between two distinct cultures. Together they have two daughters, Malaika and Amrita Arora, both of whom are doing quite well in the world of entertainment.
Anil and Joyce separated when Malaika was only 11 years old and Amrita six, notwithstanding their best efforts to keep the marriage intact. The separation hit the sisters hard and Malaika has talked more than once about the pain of growing up in a broken family. Reasons behind Anil Arora’s tragic death are still unknown as investigations are still on.
2. MG Windsor EV Launched in India at ₹9.99 Lakh
MG Motor India has announced its third fully-electric car for the Indian market, the Windsor EV. Priced at an introductory price of ₹9.99 lakh ex-showroom, this becomes a very important launch for the company. There, however, is a catch-the price listed will lease the battery to the buyer at ₹3.5 per km.
Bookings for the Windsor EV start on October 3 while test drives begin from October 13 onwards. The Windsor EV is available in three trims – Excite, Exclusive and Essence. Mechanically, it comes fitted with a 38kWh LFP battery with prismatic cells that return an output of 134bhp and 200Nm of torque. With this, the estimated range on one charge stands at 331km. This vehicle has been offered with four driving modes : Eco, Eco+, Normal and Sport.
MG Motor will provide the car with a host of charging options, such as a 3.3 kW CCS2 connection, the option of a 7.4 kW charger and also a 50 kW fast charger. The battery on offer will be able to charge up to 45 kW DC.
3. Bajaj Housing Finance IPO Allotment to Be Finalized Today
Presently, the allotment status for Bajaj Housing Finance IPO will be announced today, September 12, 2024. The allotment status can be viewed on the Kfin Technologies Ltd portal. The IPO opened for subscription on September 9 and closed on September 11, which saw an overall subscription of 63.61 times.
The non-institutional investor category was subscribed 41.51 times, qualified institutional buyers 209.36 times, and retail investors 7.04 times. The employee portion was subscribed 2.05 times while the shareholder portion was oversubscribed 17.53 times.
Allottees:
The shares shall be credited to the demat accounts of allottees by September 16. Refunds, in the case of investors who didn’t get the shares allotted shall begin from September 13.
4. Centre Approves Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance for Senior Citizens
In a major decision, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved health coverage for senior citizens under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. This decision has been declared by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and is likely to cover almost six crore senior citizens of India.
Under the scheme, the selected senior citizens will get health cover up to ₹5 lakh on a family basis. Similarly, people who are already beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat scheme shall get an additional top-up of ₹5 lakh to be utilised exclusively by them:.
The scheme can also be availed by senior citizens who pay for private health insurance. But beneficiaries covered under other public health insurance schemes such as CGHS or ECHS have to opt either for their current coverage or for the Ayushman Bharat scheme. All the enlisted beneficiaries would get a different card to access the benefits of the scheme.
5. Market Shutdown in Shimla Over Mosque Construction Controversy
Shimla today saw a half-day market shutdown from 10 am to 1 pm in protest against the alleged illegal construction of a mosque at Sanjauli area. The Shimla Vyapar Mandal today gave a call for the shutdown following fierce protest on Wednesday when the demonstrators clashed with the police over construction of the mosque.
The protesters, mostly the locals, raised nationalistic slogans, such as ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Hindu Ekta Zindabad’, moved themselves by waving the Tricolour. There was a situation of escalation, in which the mob tried to break the police barrier at the Dhalli tunnel. Mild lathi charge and water canons were used by the police to dispel the protesters.
Accordingly, the local administration has clamped Section 163 of the BNSS of 2023 that bans the assembly of more than five people without permission and carrying of arms.
6. Mr Bachchan Now Streaming on Netflix
The latest action drama of Ravi Teja, “Mr Bachchan,” has made its way to the OTT platform. The movie is currently streaming on Netflix from September 12th. Despite much hype, the film received poor results at the box office, and that explains why the movie was pretty low-key when it was released on the OTT platform, just four weeks after its theatrical release on August 15.
Mr Bachchan’ is a Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam multi-lingual film. Though the performance of Ravi Teja received positive reviews, the film didn’t quite live up to expectations, so it was sort of expected that it would come to OTT so soon. Those who missed the theatrical action may now watch it in the comfort of their homes.
7. Varun Beverages Shares Rise 6% After Stock Split
Varun Beverages jumped around 6% on Thursday to reach ₹ 665.65 on the BSE. The rally in shares came in as the stock turned ex-date for a 2:5 stock split. The Board of directors declared September 12, 2024, as the record date for determining entitlement of shareholders of the company for split of each equity share having face value of ₹ 5 into two equity shares having face value of ₹ 2.
It had also scaled its 52-week high at ₹682.84 in July 2024, rising 1.55 times or 155% from its 52-week low of ₹267.60 on January 27, 2023. In the last three months, the stock has underperformed the market by slipping 8.34% against a 0.02% decline in the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex. The split would help boost liquidity and make the shares more affordable for small investors.
8. Committee Kurrollu Set for OTT Release
Apart from a good theatrical response, the Telugu film Committee Kurrollu is getting ready for its OTT release. ETV Win announced the streaming of the film from September 12 onwards.
Committee Kurrolu – helmed by Yadu Vamsi – has been publicised as a story of socio-political issues and the relation with village life. The story has been articulated to show how politics can actually influence friendships. The movie received good comments on its authenticity and power-packed performances, converting into good returns at the box office.
9. Western Carriers IPO to Open for Bidding Tomorrow
One of the largest private multimodal logistics companies in the country, IPO of Western Carriers (India) will open for bidding on tomorrow, September 13. The issue, through which the company proposes to raise ₹492.88 crore will remain open till September 18.
The offer comprises a fresh issue of up to 2.33 crore shares aggregating ₹400 crore, and an offer for sale of 0.54 crore shares aggregating ₹92.88 crore. The price band is in the range of ₹163-172 a share. Retail investors can apply for a minimum of 87 shares.
10. Angelina Jolie’s “Without Blood” Panned at TIFF
The newest directorial outing of Angelina Jolie, “Without Blood,” opened the Toronto International Film Festival to largely negative reviews. Starring Salma Hayek, it is set in post-conflict and deals with family, war, and vengeance.
This, despite Jolie’s previous success with the 2014 film “Unbroken,” which did not result in a bad reception-the new movie’s Rotten Tomatoes rating is at 0%. The success of the film will be now put to test for Fremantle after signing Jolie on a three-picture deal.
11. After BCCI Announces Squad Changes, Ishan Kishan Demanded by Fans
Fans took to social media on Thursday morning and demanded Ishan Kishan’s return in Team India. The “Bring back Ishan Kishan” trend started trending just hours before the start of round two of the Duleep Trophy.
The left-hander was expected to represent the India D team in the Duleep Trophy after making a strong comeback to red-ball cricket with a century in the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament, but a groin injury forced him to withdraw from the first round and he was replaced by Sanju Samson. 12. Thousands Evacuated from Hanoi as Typhoon Yagi’s Death Toll Rises
Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, evacuated thousands after the Red River reached its highest water level in 20 years amidst Typhoon Yagi devastation. The strongest typhoon in Asia this year has killed 179 people, leaving 145 people still missing.
The swelling waters of the Red River have inundated Hanoi and its surrounding provinces, and people dwelling in susceptible areas have been relocated by authorities. The Central Government is kept awake as the region prepares for additional difficulties over the next couple of days.
13. Zakir Naik’s Call to Muslims Over Waqf Bill Draws Rijiju’s Response
This was in response to the call by Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, asking Muslims in India to reject the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2010. Rijiju said that Naik must not mislead the Indian Muslims and that people in India have the right to express their opinions.
Naik’s controversial post on social media exhorted Muslims to “defend the sanctity of Waqf” and oppose the bill as it would have adverse implications for Islamic institutions. Rijiju’s response underlines the stand of the government on the issue.

It is speculated that Rohit Sharma’s tenure with Mumbai Indians will be over as the franchise will go into the IPL 2025 mega auction. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra, on the recent rumors about Sharma, said Mumbai might release him or he might leave the franchise.
Reports said Sharma’s relationship with the Mumbai Indians started to go sour since he was replaced as skipper by Hardik Pandya last December. 15. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Forms Committee to Review BJP-Era Scams
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has constituted a five-member ministerial committee to scrutinise and co-ordinate action on various scams that had taken place during the BJP’s rule. The committee headed by Home Minister G Parameshwara has been given two months’ time to complete its review.
This decision comes amid increasing scrutiny of the erstwhile government’s actions and the committee is expected to focus on 20-25 big-ticket scams. A clear indication of the intent of the government in taking corruption-related issues head-on and bringing the guilty to book.
