Intense Heavy Rainfall to Soak Delhi-NCR: IMD Tells Residents to Stay Vigil
The India Meteorological Department has forecast rather heavy rainfall over the Delhi-NCR region from 2-4 August and issued a ‘yellow’ alert for 6-8 August. The concerned authorities asked the region to be on high alert since heavy rains are likely to disrupt day-to-day activities.
Rainfall Statistics and Deficit of July
Already in August, Safdarjung has received 114.1 mm of rain, while 107.6 mm fell on August 1 alone. This early surge in rainfall is noteworthy, as the average for the entire month is 233.1 mm. In contrast, July closed with a deficit of 3% in rainfall, with 203.7 mm against the normal of 209.7 mm.
IMD Issues Rainfall Warning for Northwest India
The India Meteorological Department gave a forecast. It’s about Northwest India. They said there will be quite a lot of rain. According to a press release on August 5th, most areas of Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan will see light to moderate showers. These will come with thunder and lightning.
They expect this weather pattern to stay for a week. During this time, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi will also get rain. But it won’t be as much. The rain in these states will be more scattered, but still common.
Be prepared with your umbrellas and raincoats. The weather will be wet for a while. Keep checking the latest weather updates from the India Meteorological Department. They will give more specific details close to these dates. Stay safe and dry during this rainy week in Northwest India.
Rainfall Forecast for West and Central India
The IMD has also issued a weather bulletin for West and Central India, saying, “Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Konkan & Goa and the Gujarat Region during the week. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Saurashtra & Kutch during the week.”
Heavy rainfall is predicted in Madhya Pradesh up until August 9, in Chhattisgarh up until August 7, Goa up until August 10, and in Maharashtra and Gujarat up until August 9.
Impact On Surroundings
Weather warnings are up. They say there will be a lot of rain and some thunderstorms. These will hit places like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi. Not everywhere, but some parts will see this weather.
Looking ahead to the week, rain will fall in many spots. It’s not going to be just here and there. This could make traffic slow down. There’s a chance of more car accidents too. Wet roads and poor visibility can cause that.
Also, areas that are low might flood a bit. Water might not drain away fast. This could make places where people drive or walk get covered with water. It’s good to be careful during these times.
Always remember to check the latest weather update before traveling, especially if you’re going to those areas I just mentioned. Stay safe out there!
