a driver for the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has urged the government to issue rifle licenses to its employees. The request has come forth from the driver amid a confrontation in Whitefield, after a BMTC conductor was stabbed on a jam-packed bus.
BMTC driver-cum-conductor Yogesh Gowda sent a letter to the corporation’s managing director: “Our health is impacted by driving in heavy pollution, and now, frequent attacks have made our jobs even more dangerous.”. Gowda demanded the issuance of gun licenses for the protection of drivers and conductors and said, “In the name of all the employees, we appeal to the corporation to give us the importance to safety.” The BMTC have not yet made any reaction to the demand; however the issue has raised some discussion over the safety of public transport workers.

Elon Musk is being called out this week for his remarks on Hollywood’s awareness of the sexual abuse allegations against rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs. Social media users fast-corrected him, bringing up his own connection to Diddy, even referring to previous comments from the Tesla CEO about his friendship with the rapper.
Diddy, who allegedly put $10 million into Musk’s platform X formerly Twitter, is now in jail charged with serious crimes including sexual abuse, racketeering, and sex trafficking. Character Limit, a new book by authors Kate Conger and Ryan Mac, reveals what is reportedly discussed: how Musk at one time openly boasted of his friendship with Diddy, saying, “We text a lot. Puff is a good friend of mine.” The two have attracted a lot of attention due to their close friendship as Diddy appears to dig deeper in legal trouble.

The tech giant said it was putting New Zealand on notice, saying that if the government passed a law forcing tech giants to pay for the content they displayed, it would pull the plug on linking news content on its platform. The proposed legislation aimed to ensure fair revenue sharing between digital platforms and news publishers and could have significant ramifications for the country’s media landscape.
If the bill passes in its current form, we will be required to stop linking to news content on Google Search, News, or Discover in New Zealand,” Rainsford wrote. According to Google’s New Zealand Country Director Caroline Rainsford in a blog post, the bill would force the company to “make some major changes” with regards to its products and investments. The legislation is still open to review, but the tension has risen already enough to cast a dark shadow over the country’s digital news distribution in the future.
Arvind Kejriwal, leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, will vacate his official residence in Delhi on Friday following his resignation as Chief Minister earlier this week. He is to move into a new bungalow located on Ferozeshah Road, which had been allotted to AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal.
It is part of a larger readjustment of AAP leaders’ quarters. Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia too has changed accommodation at Rajendra Prasad Road.
Kejriwal’s shifting from Delhi CM house was while the AAP mounts more political pressure, providing analysts with something to talk about over the future direction of the party.
Indian billionaire Harsh Goenka weighed in on the recent remarks made by Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath after he sparked a far-flung debate on why Indians hate rich people. “India is essentially a socialist-pretending-to-be-capitalist society, success often evoking suspicion,” Kamath said while speaking at an event in Bangalore recently.
The social media-friendly response from Goenka was: “Indians celebrate good billionaires such as Ratan Tata, Azim Premji, and Anand Mahindra for their humility and philanthropy.” Understanding that it is not money itself that is the issue but what it is used for, he added: “Those who flaunt the wealth and corrupt the system are disliked.” His comments have added a new layer to this current discussion on what constitutes being wealthy and successful in Indian society.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has invited public suggestions for raising Namma Metro ticket fares in the city. The final touch will be given by the Fare Fixation Committee, which has estimated that the increase in price may range anywhere between 15-25%.
The minimum fare is up at ₹10 and the highest fare at ₹60. So, a 5 percent discount can be availed by users of the smart card. The last time that the fare was revised was in the year 2017. The footfalls of the metro have increased since then, particularly in the Purple Line. The surge in demand with increasingly expanding network would require a hike in fare as an increase would be required to generate higher revenue and maintain service quality.
