A prominent stand-up comedian, Munawar Faruqui, has invested a big chunk in the realty market of Mumbai with his most expensive apartment buy so far, which includes a luxurious ₹6.09 crore apartment in the under-construction Lodha Aura project at Wadala, developed by Macrotech Developers Limited. The details were obtained from property documents accessed by Square Yards.
That apartment is for 1,767.97 sq ft space, with three dedicated car parking. When registering the sale on September 16, 2024, Faruqui paid stamp duty worth ₹36.6 lakh, along with ₹30,000 as registration fees.
Lodha Aura, a 40-story tower, is the epitome of high-end 3 BHK and 4 BHK apartments with maximum amenities. Local brokers estimate that in the Wadala area, property rates run between ₹35,000 and ₹60,000 per sq ft, so much for Faruqui’s new pad. This purchase further cements the comedian’s growing stature in India’s entertainment and real estate sectors.
In a rather unexpected conclusion to his three-day visit to the U.S., Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi left without meeting former President Donald Trump despite the latter’s earlier claims that they would be meeting soon. The former President had announced in a rally in Flint, Michigan that Modi would join his event on Long Island, reviving his 2016 campaign slogan with the Indian-American community: “Abki Baar, Trump Sarkar.”
In any case, India had, days ago branded the reported planned meeting as a fake one and even Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed to the media that any such meeting between Modi and the former US president is not on the visit program of Modi. Modi addressed both the UN’s Summit of the Future and the Indian-American community while attending the Quad Leaders’ Summit and meeting with U.S. tech giants.
It was Modi’s strategy to avoid meeting Trump as well as Kamala Harris and really brushed away hopes of a highly publicized “Trump-Modi” reunion.

The Supreme Court of the country, while dealing with the case relating to sealing of residential premises illegally used for commercial purposes, has called for a response from the income tax department on issuance of notices issued to the Bhure Lal-led panel that is assisting the court in this process. The three-member committee, comprising retired Major General Som Jhingon and former bureaucrat Vijay Chhibber, claimed before the court that the notices issued were not maintainable.
The panel clarified that it did not earn revenue, and the fees collected for permanent de-sealing of properties were directly deposited with the Supreme Court registry. After going through the report of the panel, a bench headed by justices AS Oka and Pankaj Mithal called the concerned income tax officer for explaining the notices. The case has raised questions over the oversight by the income tax department in issuing such notices to judicial committees.

A heated political exchange took off on Tuesday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) branded the opposition INDIA bloc as the “Balatkari Bachao Alliance” or the Save Rapists Alliance a day after the encounter killing of Akshay Shinde, the main accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case. Shinde was shot dead by police after he allegedly snatched a policeman’s gun and fired at the officers.
The INDIA bloc has asked for an inquiry into the encounter, which they say may be into police excesses. Counter this, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed the opposition was celebrating the death of a criminal and a rapist while hailing the police action as relief to the citizens of Maharashtra and Badlapur.
Poonawalla also attacked the opposition for allegedly defending rapists in earlier cases, bringing to mind the highly publicized case of the RG Kar Medical College rape-murder in West Bengal. The political word war throws into sharp focus the on-going debate on the practice of law enforcement and delivery of justice in such high-profile criminal cases.
