1. Bihar: Over 20 Dalit Homes Torched Over Land Dispute; Mallikarjun Kharge, Mayawati React

A land dispute led to a tragic incident on Wednesday in Nawada district of Bihar wherein over 20 homes of the Dalits were set on fire. The homes were torched at Manjhi Tola within the Mufassil police station area. No injuries have so far been reported. The case has been registered and 15 people have been arrested; the remaining culprits are still to be nabbed and are being searched for.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered an inquiry into the matter by sending the additional director general of police (ADG) law and order to inspect the area. A huge police force had been put in the area for maintaining peace and further escalation.

The Nawada district magistrate, Ashutosh Kumar Verma confirmed relief materials to the affected such as food packets and drinking water. Temporary shelters were also set up for the victims.

2. Justin Bieber ‘Disturbed’ by Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Arrest, Regrets Past Association

It is said that pop sensation Justin Bieber is deeply regretful over the past association he had with hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, following Combs’ latest arrest on serious charges including sex trafficking. News of Combs’ indictment-now accusing the music mogul of years of abuse, coercion, and exploitation-had left him “deeply disturbed”, according to reports since he was once mentored by Combs.

Sources close to him claim that he has withdrawn himself from the situation, not even wanting to talk about it. With a new child, Bieber is also reported to be unable to come to terms with the past dealings he had with Combs.

4. N Chandrababu Naidu Alleges Jagan Mohan Government Used Animal Fat in Tirupati Laddu

As a shocking charge by the previous Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, an animal fat was added into making Tirupati Laddu, a traditional preparation using pure ghee. The renowned prasadam is being distributed at the shrine of Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati managed by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams or TTD.

Comments from Naidu in party meet have reportedly created severe flak, though the present government has rubbished the claim. IT Minister Nara Lokesh also expressed shock at the alleged use of inferior ingredients while making laddu during the tenure of the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

The letter follows after the Congress president wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, complaining about the remarks made by BJP leaders against Gandhi.

In his letter, Nadda has attacked the Congress for doing nothing on the issues related to OBCs that BJP leaders had raised and further accused Kharge of trying to “smoothen” the image of Gandhi who had been rejected by the people time and again. 7. Himachal Education Minister: Teachers and Officers on Deputation to Be Called Back

Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Wednesday announced that teachers and officers deputed to other states would be brought back soon. He asserted the need for committed teachers and informed that outstanding students in classes X and XII would have exposure visits within the coming days.

Thakur also announced that rent college buildings will be shifted to school vacant property. Thakur stated merit and commitment will be very crucial since only meritorious students will get exposure visits to India and abroad and also underperforming teachers.

8. Brookfield to Invest Another $13 Billion in Indian Infrastructure

Canadian investment firm Brookfield Asset Management said on Thursday it plans to go on an investment spree in Indian infrastructure from its existing $13 billion wager. The company’s future investments would go into sectors like digitalization, decarbonization, and deglobalization.

India is a very strategic market for the company,” said Arpit Agrawal, India head of Brookfield. For instance, Brookfield is keen to invest in fiber optics and gas pipelines, along with investing in semiconductor makers and data centers.

9. Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Ram Finally Gets Theatrical Release in India After 31 Years

The Japanese-Indian anime version of the ancient Indian epic, called Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, will hit theaters across India after 31 years since it was made. The film, scheduled to be released on October 18 in four languages — Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu — was to reach a new generation of audiences for Valmiki’s Ramayana.

This animated epic by Japan’s Yugo Sako and India’s Ram Mohan tells the story of how Prince Rama set out to seek his wife Sita, kidnapped by the demon king Ravana. The film, though dubbed a controversy in the 1990s, stands otherwise as a landmark venture in interculture cinema endeavor.

10. Karnataka Government Decides to Criminalize Peddling of Drugs to be Made Non Bailable Offense

In a move aimed at curbing drug abuse, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said drug peddling will soon be categorized as a non-bailable offense, which would attract a maximum life imprisonment sentence. This would come as part of the state’s “zero tolerance” policy towards drug trafficking and consumption.

Siddaramaiah also announced the Ministerial task force for combating drug abuse, with a general view of raising public awareness and strengthening efforts around the state to enforce it.

11. Swing States Poll: Kamala Harris Surges Ahead of Trump

A new Quinnipiac University poll shows Vice President Kamala Harris is ahead of former President Donald Trump by 51 percent to 45 percent in three critical battleground states: Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. She has now pulled ahead of Trump in Pennsylvania with a 51 percent to 45 percent advantage, while maintaining a 50-45 percent lead in Michigan.

12. EY India Chairman Defends Death of Employee, Denies Ransom Claim

After controversy erupted over the death of Ernst & Young employee Anna Sebastian Perayil, 26, EY India Chairman Rajiv Memani faces attack for reportedly denying this was a case of work pressure killing her. The mother of Anna had blamed the firm for over-burdening her daughter with work which killed her.

In reply, Memani said that despite having much expectations from the employees, he cannot say that it was the work pressure that took his employee’s life. “We do promise to look into the matter further and make all the adjustments necessary for better employee conditions.”

13. Woman Threatens Salman Khan’s Father, Refers to Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi

A burqa-clad woman reportedly threatened Salim Khan, father of the Bollywood super star Salman Khan, by pronouncing the name of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. This was when Salim Khan is said to have been on his early morning walk in Mumbai.

Authorities feel it could have been a prank call, but Bandra police are taking the issue seriously and are probing into it. Bishnoi is already behind bars and was booked for the murder of rapper Sidhu Moosewala. He had also threatened to kill Salman Khan in the past.

14. Lulu Group Scouts for Land in Mumbai, Plans to Develop Shopping Mall or Hypermarket

The UAE-based retail giant Lulu Group is scouting for a land parcel in Mumbai, which it will develop either as a shopping mall or a hypermarket. The company has already opened scores of shopping centers in Kochi, Lucknow, Bengaluru, and other Indian cities, and it plans to increase its footprint.

Shibu Philips, director, Lulu Shopping Malls, confirmed the plans of the company. As per him, the exact development will depend on the availability of land. Lulu Group is also exploring opportunities in Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh.

15. Atishi to Take Oath as Delhi Chief Minister on Saturday

Atishi, a key AAP leader, is expected to be sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister on Saturday after Arvind Kejriwal quit. The proposal for her appointment has been sent to the President by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena for final approval.

Atishi, who had held important portfolios in the Kejriwal government, will be accompanied by a new cabinet comprising several ministers from different departments as she gets set to take over the reins of the national capital.
