2024 US Presidential Elections: Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign approach closely resembled that of ex-President Donald Trump, both in tone and policy.

On Monday, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy announced the suspension of his 2024 Republican presidential campaign following a less-than-ideal outcome in Iowa’s initial caucuses. At the age of 38, Ramaswamy has chosen to endorse his competitor, former President Donald Trump.

Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has withdrawn from the 2024 US presidential race and declared his endorsement for Donald Trump. This decision follows Ramaswamy’s underwhelming performance in the Iowa Republican caucuses.

Entering the political arena in February 2023 with limited recognition, Mr. Ramaswamy gained traction among Republican voters by articulating firm stances on immigration and advocating for an America-first approach. His campaign strategy closely mirrored that of former President Trump, aligning both in tone and policy. Ramaswamy aimed to connect with the conservative base that had previously propelled Trump to electoral success.

On the same electoral night, Trump emerged victorious in Iowa, solidifying his position as the leading contender for the Republican nomination.

Hailing from Ohio and born to immigrant parents from Kerala, Mr. Ramaswamy became an unexpected contender in the Republican field, which continued to be overshadowed by Trump’s influence.

Nevertheless, the tables turned for Mr. Ramaswamy in the days preceding the Iowa caucuses, as Trump publicly criticized him. Labeling him a “fraud” on his Truth Social media platform, Trump asserted that supporting the Indian-American candidate was equivalent to supporting the “other side.”

In Iowa, Mr. Ramaswamy secured the fourth position, capturing approximately 7.7% of the votes.

The Harvard-educated millionaire gained prominence in conservative circles through his 2021 bestseller, “Woke, Inc.,” a scathing critique of corporate decisions influenced by social justice and climate change concerns.

Fellow Republican presidential contenders often expressed frustration with Mr. Ramaswamy during debates, with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, herself of Indian origin, taking a dig at him. She remarked, “Every time I hear you, I feel a little bit dumber.”

With Trump securing the top spot, Ron DeSantis outperformed Ms. Haley, claiming second place in the Iowa caucuses.
