Over 30,000 residents of a wildfire raging near Los Angeles were left to evacuate their homes as ravenous flames continue to consume high-end neighborhoods in Pacific Palisades. One firefighter has reportedly been injured as several burn victims are hospitalized after the fire was started near a nature preserve.
California Governor Gavin Newsom declared deploying more than 1,400 firefighters to battle the disaster. “Emergency responders are working tirelessly to protect lives and property,” he posted on X. Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk said “nonsense regulations” made things worse and sparked a fresh round of discussion about whether California is ready for wildfires.
Six people died and dozens were injured in a stampede near the Tirupati temple as ‘darshan’ tokens for Ekadasi were being distributed. The tragedy occurred at the Vishnu Niwasam area where overcrowding at one of the counters led to chaos.
The tragedy occurred due to poor management of the crowd, said officials from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). Chairman BR Naidu said it was an “unprecedented” event in the temple’s history.
