Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president in Jammu and Kashmir, Ravinder Raina, is lagging behind by over 10,000 votes in the Nowshera constituency, Rajouri district. Raina is a contesting candidate from the National Conference (NC). Surinder Choudhary is the candidate of NC who has polled 30,883 votes after the third round of counting, according to the latest data available with the Election Commission of India.
It marks a turnabout for the constituency, which was a Congress stronghold from 1962 to 2002. Raina had won the seat in 2014, which marked the first BJP victory in the constituency. But Choudhary, who had jumped from the Peoples Democratic Party to the BJP in 2022, has now come back to the NC, which changes the playing field. Increasingly, it can be seen that voting is not in favour of Raina and he faces a lot of competition that can change the politics of Nowshera.
The National Conference (NC)-Congress alliance seems poised to score a victory in Jammu & Kashmir with the alliance crossing the majority mark of 46 when it is leading in 50 seats. Early trends show the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is lagging behind with leads merely in 27 constituencies and other smaller parties ahead in eight.
This election is highly consequential for the region, for it is the first since Jammu & Kashmir lost its semi-autonomous status in August 2019. The results of this election will dictate the political discourse toward the issue of statehood, the central theme during the election campaigns. In the probable event of the NC-Congress combine achieving a majority, the possibility of return to statehood does seem bright. Elections in three phases and with as many as 873 candidates in the fray to contest for 90 seats, results so far point at NC-Congress alliance as the way to regain control of the region’s politics.
Despite worsening economic woes, China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) declared that it still remained “fully confident” to achieve its growth target for the year, without revealing any new stimulus plan. The global markets have been left disappointed as investors had expected fresh policies that would fuel economic revival.
The country has also been plagued by a potential protracted crisis in housing, poor consumption, and local government debt. According to officials, a 5% growth rate is targeted for the year, but this would seem a difficult goal to achieve now, given some economic headwinds. At a news conference on Tuesday, NDRC head Zheng Shanjie once again pointed to the “overall stability and strength” of the country’s economic fundamentals and said that Beijing was committed to long-term, stable, and sustainable development. But new measures failed to raise many more hopes for more substantial economic stimulus.

She had locked herself in a room and cried because the project was dropped, Bhansali said. But the filmmaker soon called her for the lead in “Gangubai Kathiawadi,” which has emerged as a critically acclaimed film. Bhansali recalled how Alia first had her reservations about the role but put her trust in him to get her into the tough, robust character of Gangubai. It proved one of her finest performances to date.

Bangladesh canceled its agreement with Summit Group over constructing a new floating liquefied natural gas terminal, calling it vague. An announcement of the Summit Group, a local conglomerate, was declared a winner for building Bangladesh’s third LNG terminal scheduled to be operable by mid-2026.
The move comes after a government committee called the contract’s fairness into question and raised questions over how it was granted. In a statement Monday, Summit Group said it was “unhappy” with the ruling and plans to appeal. The cancellation will also nullify a 15-year LNG supply agreement tied to the construction of the terminal, sources added.
