Ex-Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner Lalit Modi, who has been under the radar of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for suspected money laundering, has now submitted a request to surrender his Indian passport after gaining Vanuatu citizenship. The External Affairs Ministry confirmed this and added that the Indian authorities are pursuing their legal proceedings against Modi as per the law.
As per official reports, Modi had applied at the Indian High Commission in London for the surrender of his Indian passport. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the authorities would consider his application as per the prescribed legal frameworks and procedures.
Though Lalit Modi is still a free man in the UK, he has been under constant watch in India since 2012 for suspected financial irregularities in the foreign telecast rights of the T20 tournament. In spite of attempts to put out an Interpol red notice in 2015, it was turned down, and the case against Modi is still open.
The national capital, Delhi, is also experiencing its worst in years of swine flu, H1N1, with health authorities observing a steep hike in the cases across several homes. The city’s hospitals are seeing an abrupt rise in the number of patients showing signs like high temperature, sore throat, and body pains, putting medical professionals in worry.
Health experts have revealed that nearly 50% of households in Delhi have at least one family member experiencing flu-like symptoms, pushing hospitals to capacity. In light of this severe outbreak, the government has urged residents to adhere to safety guidelines, including wearing masks, avoiding public gatherings, and practicing hygiene measures to curb the spread of the virus.
The Delhi Health Department has also issued advisories to susceptible groups, including children, elderly, and those with pre-existing medical conditions, suggesting vaccination and immediate medical care in the event of symptoms.
Acclaimed Bollywood music composer Pritam has finally broken his silence on the plagiarism issue that erupted following BLACKPINK artist Jennie’s latest song Like Jennie, which was accused of being exactly the same as the Rani Anthem of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani.
Fans on Twitter were also not slow in identifying similarities between the two songs and started debating online whether or not the composition had been borrowed. Reacting to the issue, Pritam went onto his Instagram and tried to settle the issue.
During his statement, Pritam explained that musical phrases are similar across genres, and the similarity here was coincidental. He further added that immense hard work was put in by both artists, and instead of creating controversies, collaboration between artists from around the world and those from their region should be fostered.

The Delhi Traffic Police, in association with the Delhi State Legal Services Authority, has declared that a National Lok Adalat will be conducted on March 8, 2025, to clear pending traffic challans and disputes amicably.
Lok Adalat will provide vehicle owners with a chance to settle all outstanding traffic fines, such as spot challans, GRAP violation fines, and other notices given prior to November 30, 2024. The special settlement campaign will be held at major court complexes like Tis Hazari Court, Rohini Court, and Patiala House Court, among others.
Special Commissioner (Traffic) Ajay Chaudhry asked citizens to make the most of this chance and not have to wait for a long time through legal proceedings to abide by traffic rules.
US President Donald Trump’s move to implement tariffs on Mexican, Canadian, and Chinese imports has been the focal point of worldwide economic debates. The action is to safeguard American manufacturing and provide additional jobs for the country.
Tariffs are in fact taxes levied on foreign imports, increasing their cost to stimulate local consumption. Trump’s move, however, has received a mixed response as nations such as China and Canada have hit back with counter-tariffs, which have raised fears of a global trade war.
Economists, however, believe that tariffs may benefit domestic firms in the short term but cause consumer prices to rise and complicate foreign relations. The administration of Trump holds the opinion that the action is necessary to save US sovereignty and stop illicit activity such as drug trafficking.
The newly tabled IT bill in India has caused concern since it allows tax authorities to view citizens’ social media, email accounts, and online investments in case of suspected tax evasion. According to Clause 247, officials can now override access codes and take control of digital platforms without prior notice.
The controversial move has initiated controversies over invasion of privacy, with most arguing if the government needed unlimited access to individual information. The government, however, justifies the move as needed to fight on a large scale against tax fraud and uncover hidden financial transactions.
Privacy activists and legal professionals now want the bill amended to find a balance between tax transparency and the security of individual data.
Former Pakistani cricketer Rashid Latif has created a controversy by stating that while MS Dhoni is playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) would never win the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Latif said this in a TV debate after another cricketer Ahmed Shehzad said that Mohammad Amir’s inclusion in RCB might turn the fate of the team. But Latif negated the statement, underlining that Dhoni’s captaincy is the biggest hurdle to RCB’s championship dreams.
Though there have been rumors regarding Dhoni’s retirement, CSK has retained him for the next couple of seasons, and their championship aspirations remain intact.
Ex-Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif has come down heavily on great cricketers Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, blaming them for Pakistan’s dismal performance in international competitions.
Latif argued that the ongoing participation of old 90s players in Pakistan Cricket administration has hampered the emergence of new stars. He went on to argue that the hegemony of Akram and Younis has denied young promising players a chance to emerge.
The remarks have evoked heated discussion in the cricket community, with some coming out in defense of the roles played by Akram and Younis, while others are in support of Latif’s demand for new leadership.
