1. Bengaluru Namma Metro’s Yellow Line Launch Postponed Till January 2025

R V Road to Bommasandra Bengaluru’s Yellow Line opens in January 2025. Its much-anticipated launch has been called off due to unending logistical challenges on Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited which oversees the city’s Namma Metro.

The first batch of trains is to be delivered into the network in November-December 2024, and the new operations phase would likely begin in January 2025, but the operations will start off initially with a 30-minute headway till further set arrivals. Another way of saying this is that the CMRS inspection falls in December. Soon after all the train sets reach, expected in August 2025, the frequency of metro is going to improve, thus easing the daily operations for commuters. People would be waiting eagerly for this new addition as the Yellow Line is sure to reduce traffic jams in this busy city and offer a quicker option through which people can travel in this bustling city.

2. Kerala Assembly Adjourned Amid Protests Following CM, LoP Verbal Clash

Chaotic scenes were witnessed at the Kerala Assembly on Monday when it was finally adjourned after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan engaged in a hot exchange over some controversial issues. The war of words had reached a crescendo when opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) members stormed into the podium, raising banners and slogans against the chief minister.

The opposition vented its ire further over procedural changes carried to several questions in the assembly, after which there was more fireworks in the controversy. LoP Satheesan castigated the Speaker for scrubbing his remarks off the official record while retaining the Chief Minister’s remarks. After taking all this in, the Speaker decided to adjourn the session for the day.

Law Minister P Rajeeve reacts back by accusing the opposition of intentionally delaying discussion on controversial remarks against Malappuram made by the Chief Minister. The opposition retaliated by charging the government with acting like an autocracy that militates against this implied barricade for the ruling and the opposition parties.

4. Ola Electric Battered by Market Blows: Stock Slumps by 43% from Listing PE

Ola Electric’s shares saw a huge beat yesterday when they declined by 8%. This is part of an overall downtrend that the share price has witnessed in the last few trading sessions. From listing in August and when it first shot to a high of ₹157.4 per share, it now trades at a low of 43% percent.

Electric two-wheeler manufacturer is finding tough competition from major players like Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor, which have been pretty aggressive in their expansion of electric two-wheelers and gaining a big market share in the process. Ola has also recently come up with its festive discounts under the “BOSS sale” as it was cutting prices by as much as ₹40,000 on its S1 X scooter range to catch up in the lost grounds.

Adding to the woes of company, the social media fight between Ola’s CEO Bhavish Aggarwal and comedian Kunal Kamra, complaining about services offered by Ola, has been covered widely. In response to Kamra, Aggarwal termed him a “failed comic” and vowed an upgrade in the service network offered by Ola.

5. Mumbai Opens First Underground Metro Line from BKC to Aarey for Public Use

Mumbai’s public transport received a boost with the completion of the city’s first underground metro corridor, which went into commercial operations from Monday. The 12.69 km stretch here is called the Aqua Line. It connects the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Aarey and marks a milestone in the city’s ambitious metro project.

The corridor is a part of the larger Colaba-SEEPZ-Aarey JVLR project. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the corridor, providing an improved transportation route to Mumbaikars while reducing traffic congestion on the city roads, according to an official release. Regular services will begin from Tuesday, which will operate from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm on weekdays and 8:30 am on Sundays. The ticket price of the new metro line varies between ₹10 to ₹50.

6. Vir Das Responds to Accusations of ‘Denigrating India’ Abroad

Actor-comedian Vir Das has once again courted controversy, this time for “denigrating India” at international forums. Kartikeya Tanna in a tweet titled the two “mediocre artists propped up to undermine India’s soft power abroad”.

Vir Das has responded to the allegations, sticking to his words that his work speaks about honest conversations about India and attacked back by saying that it is the form of love he has for his country and said people understand what’s the intention. Meanwhile, he also took the opportunity to remind everyone that he has worked for 18 years and that he personally rents venues to perform in different parts of the world.

6. Protests Against Pakistan School Privatization Plan Surge as Students March to Support Teachers

Protests against the federal government’s plan to privatize state-run schools have gained momentum in Pakistan with teachers and students taking the protest on the streets in the province of Punjab. Now, the law fraternity has come forward in support of the movement, signifying growing unrest over the privatization plan.

The protests by teachers, which have already paralyzed the functioning of several schools in Rawalpindi, centre around the threat of job losses and the changes in pension rules brought about through privatization. Government employees threatened the nation with further strikes if their demands were not met. On October 5 — “Salam Teachers’ Day” — teachers plan to observe a black day as a protest over their grievances.

7. Train operator Tokyo Metro aims to raise 2.4 billion dollars in Japan’s biggest initial public offering since 2018

Tokyo Metro is going to rewrite the history books in participating in Japan’s largest initial public offering since 2014. The subway operator has set its IPO price range between 1,100 yen and 1,200 yen per share, with hopes to raise close to 349 billion yen or $2.4 billion from it. The price for the IPO is going to be finalised on October 15, ahead of the company’s debut at the Tokyo Stock Exchange on October 23.

Established in the early 20th century, Tokyo Metro is one of the only two subway corporations in the capital city of Japan. The reaped funds from IPO will be utilized to expand the business as well as enhancing the infrastructure, such as the construction of more train lines to accommodate this fast-increasing population metropolis, Tokyo.

8. Zomato CEO Terms Treatment of Delivery Partners in Malls as Awful

The CEO of Zomato, Deepinder Goyal, called for shopping malls to improve the working conditions for food delivery partners, based on his personal experience of facing the same problems the delivery partners face. Goyal and his wife recently took up delivery roles to have a better understanding of the plight of Zomato’s workforce.

Goyal took to social media to narrate an experience at a mall in Gurugram wherein delivery partners are made to climb by stairs and spend time in uncomfortable conditions. He underlined a need for greater cooperation between malls and delivery companies instead of trying to keep delivery staff away from the premises altogether. Many have taken up Goyal’s call for change and focused attention on often-overlooked challenges of the gig economy workforce.

9. South Korean Woman Sues Government Over Kidnapped Daughter Sent Abroad for Adoption

On February 24, Han Tae-soon, 70, filed a lawsuit against her government and an adoption agency over the wrongful adoption of her daughter, kidnapped at age four and sent to the United States in 1976. Her daughter, Laurie Bender, was adopted through Holt Children’s Services, one of South Korea’s biggest adoption agencies.

The case of Han, it was of the adopted children in South Korea during the 1970s and 1980s, in this case, brought to public attention by an Associated Press investigation. Han, after searching for more than 40 years, was reunited with her daughter through DNA in 2019. Her case is an open avenue for litigation against the government because it fails to prevent adoption and makes claims for compensation from both the government and Holt Children’s Services.

10. Delhi’s Khan Market Café Hygiene Concerns in Australia: Cockroach in Iced Latte

While a cockroach floating in an iced latte from one of L’Opéra’s many cafés served from its place in Delhi’s Khan Market has raised a serious cause for concern over the hygiene standards at this popular café, the incident took place on October 4. The customer noticed a foreign object in the iced latte he had ordered for take away, upon which, much to his shock, proved to be a cockroach.

The customer returned to the café to talk with the staff, who apparently had meager words of apology for the incident. The meager response to this incident has sparked concerns on cleanliness in the café and hygiene practices in place in the food establishment. It has since spread virally in social media as people call out for stronger health regulations in local food houses.
