The U.S. presidential race for 2024 promises to be a closely contested battle. Republican candidate Donald Trump has quickly moved ahead, taking 26 states, among which are Texas, Florida, and Montana. The Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, has acquired 19 states, but votes in swing regions remain to be counted. His winning in North Carolina and all other battlegrounds has raised the hopes of Trump becoming president. Harris may regain and recover if she will make all her possible efforts to regain the 270 electoral votes that can give her some difference margin.
The win shall decide not only for the president but also power over Congress as well in case that Senate control remains under dispute, while house is to be taken along. More than 82 million Americans voted early, and as the results keep trickling in, political analysts say it may take some time before a final projection is made. The 2020 election had President Joe Biden win against Trump with 306 electoral votes to 232, setting a high bar for both contenders this year.
He also raised controversy by advocating a ban of fluoride in public water as evidence by science has proven that there are no risks to human consumption. He recently made sensational news after hinting that President Donald Trump would remove fluoride in water if re-elected. “On January 20, the Trump White House will advise all US water systems to remove fluoride from public water,” Kennedy posted on social media.
The CDC has been the biggest proponent of adding fluoride to drinking water, a practice it touted as a major public health victory and credited with saving the teeth of millions of Americans. Kennedy pointed to a study that tied high levels of fluoride in the water to reduced IQs in children, but experts said risks are linked only to levels many times higher than the 0.7 milligrams per liter recommended. The debate has also reopened a fight over public health measures and their relationship to politics.
The government of Equatorial Guinea in damage control following an online scandal where explicit videos featuring a high-ranking finance ministry official go viral. According to reports, the videos featured the government official engaging in explicit acts with multiple recordings that were shot in governmental offices. The publications outraged the public and compelled the government to install surveillance cameras in the buildings of the ministries.
Vice President Nguema Obiang Mangue indicated that officials appearing in the videos would be suspended and disciplinary action taken against the security personnel at the implicated offices. President Teodoro Obiang, Africa’s longest-serving leader, has led the country for 45 years and is now being confronted with increasing pressure to establish credibility as the case of governance standard in the country continues to linger on.
Bitcoin has surged to $75,000, in its all-time high, supported by the expectation of election results in the United States. The cryptocurrency had kept below $70,000 for most of the year but spiked with the release of election results that appear to give Trump a likely victory. At 10:14 a.m., the price of Bitcoin stood at $74,628.18, which translates to 7.56% of an increase. The upsurge is linked to market expectations that a probable victory for Trump will attract deregulatory policies that the market perceives as welcoming cryptocurrencies.
Analysts say that this rally underlines Bitcoin’s role as a hedge during political and economic uncertainty. On the other hand, a win for Kamala Harris could introduce regulatory risks, which may temper market enthusiasm. Stocks linked to the crypto sector also gained, with Coinbase rising 3% and MicroStrategy up 4%, reflecting broader investor optimism.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 player auction is scheduled for November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, thereby marking the second successive year when the event is to be hosted abroad. BCCI announced the list of 1,574 players who are to take part in the auction. Here, Indians constitute 1,165 out of registered players and the rest international players which constitute 409 who belong to 30 Associate nations. Among the overseas entries, South Africa and Australia have topped with three maximum numbers.
Punjab Kings have the biggest available budget of ₹110.5 crore while Rajasthan Royals has the smallest one at ₹41 crore. The auction will clash with the third and fourth day of India’s opening Test against Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, posing logistical issues. There are 204 slots in all, with 70 of them available for overseas players, and all these look like promising slots for a competitive auction season.
New York Times Co. suffered a 7.1% decline in its stock after it reported lower than expected third-quarter subscription growth. The newspaper added 260,000 digital subscribers. It is lower than the 300,000 new digital subscribers added in the previous quarter. The total count is 11.09 million subscribers, which was short of the forecasted 11.14 million. The quarterly revenue of $640.2 million also failed to meet analysts’ estimates by a hairline margin.
This decline comes against the backdrop of a walk-out by the Times Tech Guild – a union of Times of India’s technology workforce-at the eve of U.S. presidential election; amid reports of its ongoing strife with the paper regarding demands over pay and policies about offices. Meredith Kopit Levien, Chief Operating Officer, says it doesn’t matter in one key respect: this will pass, and word continues strong. Digital remains hot where the popular ones lie–Wordle–it reached the top trending category overnight, and also maintained this rank for six successive weeks.
A viral LinkedIn post by an Indian student in Leicester has drawn attention as she is offering to work for free to get a visa-sponsored job in the UK. The student, who came to the UK for higher studies in 2021, said that despite submitting more than 300 job applications, she had not received any offer. “Hire me for free for one month. If I do not deliver, fire me on the spot, no questions asked,” she implored.
The post did manage to evoke sympathy from quite a few, but it got criticized on LinkedIn and also on Reddit. It had been criticized that giving an unpaid work experience may be an unhealthy precedent and give very unrealistic expectations to employers in the future. This incident underlines the plight of foreign students in getting job stability after completing their education, as well as their issues about visa policies.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sunil Raut is under attack today after making a controversial against his political opponent Suvarna Karanje. This is because Karanje – who is in the elections against Raut -filed a complaint stating she was called “bakri” by Raut-an apparent threat of violence which Karanje has termed ‘disturbing’ and went against public decency.
Karanje requested the Chief Electoral Officer to de-register Raut and request a re-evaluation of her security, as he fears his words may be acted upon by his supporters. The National Commission for Women has condemned the remark and demanded action be taken immediately. The incident has heightened political tension and called into question what is considered acceptable campaign rhetoric.
As the auctions for IPL 2025 approach, some other shocking exclusions are Stokes from the 1,574 registered players. In a shocking decision, England all-rounder Stokes, who had opted out of this year’s tourney to ease his workload, has declared that he would not join the fray. Former test cricket stalwart James Anderson, 42, has marked his name at a base price of ₹1.25 crore though he does not play T20 after 2014.
Multiple big-ticket Indian players have anchored their base price at ₹2 crore, with those names including Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. The top tier of base pricing also includes Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh, and the franchises are going to be at a war for getting hold of the best available talent on board to build for next season.
Cristiano Ronaldo rediscovered his goal-scoring form as Al-Nassr won a decisive 5-1 victory over Al-Ain in the AFC Champions League. Ronaldo had gone four matches without a goal as Al-Nassr went out of the King Cup of Champions and drew with Al-Hilal, so his strike was a much-needed sight for the club. He took advantage of a defensive mistake by Al-Ain goalkeeper Khalid Eisa to double Al-Nassr’s lead after Anderson Talisca had opened the scoring.
Al-Nassr further consolidated their lead with added goals by Angelo and Talisca, who scored his second of the night after a brief response from Al-Ain. The match has thus marked an underpinning influence for Ronaldo that will also boost the Saudi side’s morale as it continues its pursuit of sustainability in the tournament.
