Delhi and its adjoining areas received moderate to heavy rainfall on Friday, resulting in significant chaos and bringing down temperatures drastically. Delhi and its surrounding areas will get hailstorms, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), placing the day under an ‘orange’ alert. IMD has declared a ‘yellow’ alert for rain for Saturday and Sunday.
Rain started early on Friday, leading to massive water logging, mainly in low-lying areas, including areas near Delhi University’s North Campus. There were reports of traffic chaos across South, Central, and North Delhi. The maximum temperature came down to 15 degrees Celsius, almost 10 degrees lower than the day before, with the day’s high and low temperatures difference being just three degrees.
The IMD said the heavy showers were caused by a Western Disturbance interacting with easterly winds and forecast further rain and thunderstorms along with hailstorms over northern and western areas. Cold wave conditions are likely in Himachal Pradesh from Sunday, while Rajasthan recorded light to moderate rain with a minimum temperature of 5.4 degrees Celsius in Churu.
