Though the tremors were experienced in a number of areas in West Bengal and Odisha, no casualties or damage to property have been reported so far. Nevertheless, the unexpected jolt created temporary panic, with most residents taking to social media to narrate their experience.
Seismologists reported that the Bay of Bengal area is not recognized for high-frequency earthquakes, but small tremors do happen at intervals. People have been advised by authorities to stay calm but alert, as aftershocks cannot be dismissed.

The period epic ‘Chhaava’, featuring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, has been a huge box office hit, earning over ₹300 crore. But it has also led to some controversy, with descendants of Maratha fighters Ganoji and Kanhoji Shirke protesting their depiction in the movie.
The Shirke family, in accordance with the film, has accused the filmmakers of portraying their ancestors as traitors in the film, alleging that the film distorts historical facts about Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s capture by Aurangzeb. The family has threatened legal action and is planning to file a ₹100 crore defamation case against the filmmakers.
In the face of growing outrage, director Laxman Utekar has publicly apologized. He explained that the movie does not specifically mention Ganoji and Kanhoji Shirke by name, nor does it reference their village or family information, implying that the representation was not intended to offend the Shirke clan directly.
A fresh political storm has broken out in Delhi, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government had deleted the pictures of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh from the Chief Minister’s office.
AAP leader Atishi criticized the BJP as “anti-Dalit” and “anti-Sikh” and posted before-and-after photos of the CM’s office wall to substantiate her accusation. She accused the portraits being swapped with those of Mahatma Gandhi, President Droupadi Murmu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Delhi BJP, however, has denied the allegations, stating that the portraits of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh are still present in CM Rekha Gupta’s office. The party accused AAP of spreading misinformation, calling it a “desperate distraction” from the upcoming CAG reports on Delhi’s financial mismanagement.

Makhanas, which have been known as a nutrient-dense superfood for years, are becoming increasingly popular globally, and experts say they can become one of India’s leading agricultural exports.
