Biggest Story In India Headlines 19th April 2025
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has declared the second session results of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025, where 24 students have scored a perfect 100 NTA score. The examination this year witnessed a massive turn-out of more than 9.92 lakh students, establishing its position as India’s most competitive engineering entrance exam.
Interestingly, Rajasthan topped the list with the maximum number of top scorers, and among the 24, one girl candidate found her name in the elite list. But the celebrations were short-lived as there were reports of malpractice—NTA withheld the results of 110 candidates who were caught resorting to unfair means, including fake documents.
NTA explained that the marks announced aren’t percentages but normalised scores. These are determined based on candidates’ relative performance across sessions for the sake of fairness. Having JEE Main out of the way now, the best-performing candidates will proceed to try the tougher JEE Advanced—India’s point of entry to elite Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

The Delhi Police have arrested 25-year-old Zikra Khan, notorious as “Lady Don,” for her involvement in the murder of 17-year-old Kunal in Seelampur. The stabbing occurred just meters away from Kunal’s home, reportedly as revenge for a months-old fight.
Surveillance caught the ambush of Kunal by two teenagers and his fatal stabbing. The brutal nature of the crime led to local outrage, protests, and large-scale police deployment in the area. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta contacted the bereaved family and promised quick justice. Police have attributed Zikra’s role to previous gang rivalry, and further arrests are imminent as the probe goes deeper.

The United States might “take a pass” at further mediation on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, said U.S. President Donald Trump, in the event of no visible progress being made sooner. Trump’s latest comments coincide with growing diplomatic fatigue and minimal momentum in attempting to broker a peace between Moscow and Kyiv.
Addressing journalists at the White House, Trump indicated that both sides must move quickly or lose the support of Americans. His remarks are in line with recent remarks by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who indicated that the U.S. could pull back efforts if a ceasefire is not achievable. Trump did not directly accuse President Putin or President Zelensky but indicated that further delays would not be accepted. His appointment gives a new sense of urgency to a conflict that has already lasted more than three years.

The U.S. Department of State has issued a strong warning to foreign students, particularly Indians, against violating federal or immigration laws, saying that those who do so will be dealt with severely, including being deported.
Spokesperson Margaret MacLeod stressed during an online interaction that although the U.S. still provides huge educational and career opportunities, those opportunities are for those who follow the law. This is during reports of visa revocations for students who have been involved in different infractions, from minor legal offenses to taking part in protests.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs is keeping a close watch, with consulates providing help to the affected students. Although not referring to specific cases, the U.S. made it clear that all residents, temporary or permanent, need to adhere to immigration procedures or face penalties.

Surrendered composer A.R. Rahman spoke about his working experience making “Thug Life,” the reunion with filmmaking giants Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam. At the launch of the first song of the film “Jinguchaa” in Chennai, Rahman referred to the reunion as an honour and a challenge.
Recalling the magic of the trio’s earlier masterpiece “Nayakan,” Rahman said this new film presents an entirely different narrative while still capturing the essence of timeless storytelling. He described the scoring process as intense, especially given Kamal Haasan’s legendary status and high expectations. With Mani Ratnam directing, expectations are sky

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have landed in troubled waters following a string of poor home performances. In their recent match against Punjab Kings, RCB’s attacking strategy again came undone, leading to a resounding defeat.
Even initial tactical moves by Virat Kohli, such as laying traps with smart fielding, did not work as RCB’s top order succumbed to pressure. Injudicious shot plays and inability to adjust to the Chinnaswamy surface resulted in premature wickets, with the team scoring only 33 runs for five wickets by the seventh over.
The surface, which used to be heaven for batsmen, has gone slow this season. Fast bowlers who target the back-of-length balls are loving it, but RCB has not changed. Their rollercoaster performances at home have put them in mid-table with an urgent need for momentum. Director of Cricket Mo Bobat and leading pacer Josh Hazlewood have conceded the problem, but the answers are hard to find with pressure building up.

Chennai Super Kings have strengthened their team by signing South African youngster Dewald Brevis as a replacement for injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh. This last-minute signing may prove to be a game-changer for CSK, who are presently at the bottom of the points table.
Brevis, sometimes compared to AB de Villiers for his attack-minded batting approach, was retained for INR 2.2 Crore even though his base price was only INR 75 Lakh. He has been on a hot run in domestic leagues and international T20 tournaments of late, featuring a strike rate of almost 145.
Having played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL in the past, Brevis infuses flair and experience. Brevis comes in for CSK just before their vital match against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede. With CSK already losing captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and going back to Ayush Mhatre previously in the season, Brevis’s arrival brings depth to their underperforming side and provides a ray of hope for a change of fortunes.
