Former President Donald Trump recently did an on-camera interview about life as a freshman for his son Barron Trump at NYU’s Stern School of Business. Speaking on the PBD Podcast, Trump was asked if Barron had found a girlfriend since arriving at NYU. Certainly a contrast to the level of privacy that has surrounded his family life up to this point, Trump candidly replied, “I don’t think he’s had a girlfriend yet.”
Though Barron, 18, lives life quite differently from that of his peer college mates owing to secret service agents around him, his classmates described him very positively. Proud of the achievement of his son, Trump praised Barron by saying he was intelligent and that he had been accepted into every college he applied for. Trump further said, “He’s very smart, a good student, and he gets along well with others.”. But he is also okay with being alone. The media is replete with stories on the readjustment of Barron to college life as he settles into one of the country’s premier business schools.
Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma took charge of one of India’s worst Test match days recently. Bowled out for just 46 against New Zealand at the first Test in Bengaluru, Sharma threw everyone by the surprise move of addressing the media during the match. Such openness from an Indian captain midway through the game is not common, evoking memories of a similar incident involving Sourav Ganguly in 2005.
“We thought the pitch was going to be more flat, but it didn’t turn out that way. I am hurt because I called this,” Sharma said and added that the full responsibility of the collapse was that of his team’s. “We didn’t play well. Simple,” he said. Allowing the media questions speaks to Sharma’s character in leading his players through times of triumph as well as times of failure.
Former President Donald Trump has once more been implicating himself into controversy. This time, he blames Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the war with Russia. Speaking during an appearance on the PBD Podcast, Mr. Trump said that “Zelensky is one of the greatest salesmen I’ve ever seen. Every time he comes in, we give him $100 billion. He should never have let that war start.”.
Criticism came swift, with many believing that Trump reduced the understanding of the conflict and removed the focus of attention on Russian aggression. Trump also attacked President Joe Biden for “agitating” the war, claiming that Biden’s policies enabled Russia. However, he showed empathy for the Ukrainian people. His statement has yet again flared controversies over his foreign policy stance and his actions towards Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Health activists and parents gathered outside Kellogg’s headquarters in Michigan, demanding the removal of artificial dyes and preservatives from the most popular Froot Loops and Apple Jacks. The protesters presented a petition with more than 400,000 signatures to Kellogg, asking the company to honor an almost nine-year-old commitment to eliminate those additives.
While Kellogg’s was able to eliminate artificial dyes from its products in such countries as Canada, the U.S. cereals versions still contain synthetic colors and preservatives such as BHT. Demonstrators in the protests based their arguments on the fact that artificial dyes would contribute to behavioral problems among children and, therefore, should be banned as the company must care for its consumers. Other speakers at the rally, including prominent food activist Vani Hari, hammered away at Kellogg for playing catch-up in the US. “It’s now 2024, and Kellog still sells foods laced with dangerous chemicals,” Hari said. This comes just hot on the heels of California passing a law to ban certain food dyes, further exacerbating the pressure placed on food manufacturers to provide healthier options.
In a sensational incident, police in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur have arrested a 17-year-old boy for distributing thousands of child pornographic videos through Telegram. According to police sources, the teenager sold over 4,000 clips and earned a commission of 30 percent per video. The boy used Nekogram besides Telegram for distribution, where some videos were sold for as high as ₹20,000.
Operation busted Police discovered the operation after being tipped off by a volunteer organisation. Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover said that the boy’s supplier was an individual known as ‘Raj’. The police have taken his mobile and are scanning a network of the other people involved. An FIR has been lodged; and further arrests could be in the offing as the authorities attempt to crack the child porn ring.
The former One Direction singer Liam Payne sadly passed away in Argentina after he had leaped from his hotel balcony, authorities have confirmed. He was 31 years old and was staying at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires when he fell from the third floor, with fatal injuries. At the time, he was found to be under drugs or alcohol influence, according to the officials.
The distress call that was made by the management of the hotel described Payne as “overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol,” destroying his room before falling to his death. Paynes’ death was confirmed as a result of suicide by communications director Pablo Policicchio at Buenos Aires Security Ministry. The world was shocked following this bad news, as tribute flowed to the singer who once topped global charts with One Direction.
The Mumbai police have issued a lookout circular (LOC) against three people suspected of involvement in the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique. Shivkumar Gautam, Shubham Lonkar, and Mohammed Zeeshan Akhtar, considered the most important persons accused of the crime, are among those against whom the LOC has been issued. Preventing these from escaping the country was the objective behind issuing the LOC today, and the authorities notified all airports and seaports.
While four have already been arrested, among them alleged shooters and co-conspirators, police teams scour the country for the remaining fugitives. Siddique was shot dead in Bandra on October 12, an attack that has shocked political circles in Maharashtra.
In the latest development pointing towards brazen chicanery in state administrative affairs, Chhattisgarh IAS Ranu Sahu has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a case related to the District Mineral Fund (DMF) scam on charges of siphoning off public funds meant for communities affected by mining activities. This comes just a few days after fellow bureaucrat Maya Varier was brought under custody in the very case.
Large-scale money laundering was revealed through paid illegal commissions to contractors through the ED investigation. Officials say contractors were compelled to pay kickbacks of 25 to 40 percent of the contract value. The ED probe into over ₹1,000 crore DMF funds siphoned off in Chhattisgarh has sent shockwaves across the state’s bureaucracy, with more arrests likely to follow.
Actor-comedian and Hollywood star Russell Brand may soon be accused of rape. However this has not stopped the celebrity from promoting a “magic amulet” that repels WiFi and “evil energies.” Brand is touting his £188 amulet in a now-viral TikTok, claiming it helps him protect himself from the allegedly bad electromagnetic signals.
Brand’s very awkward endorsement has left many viewers questioning, especially as his allegations involve serious charges. He continues to boast and maintain some semblance of familiarity with the public through social media even amid allegations that can put him behind bars forever. There has been the amulet to sell, after all, for the purpose of “corrupting signals” in places such as airports. The amulet is being marketed by Airestech as a gadget to protect itself from electromagnetic radiation, though the scientific legitimacy of such claims is far from clear.
Officially entering India’s billionaire club today, Saurabh Gadgil is chairman of PN Gadgil Jewellers, the company which has raised a successful IPO from the market. Gadgil is 47 years old and climbed to heights after joining the family business six generations ago, back in 1998.
