The ₹6,560-crore IPO saw surge demand, especially for institutional and non-institutional investors. Interest has surpassed the previous record held by Coal India Ltd and Mundra Port for IPO subscriptions that reached ₹2 lakh crore.

On the last day of bidding, the IPO was subscribed as high as 63.61 times. As many as over 4,628 crore shares were bid for against an offer of just 72.75 crore shares. Non-institutional investors showed interest at a pretty robust level with subscription at 41.51 times while QIBs oversubscribed their portion by 209 times. Retail investors were also not far behind, subscribing the shares in excess of seven times the portion reserved for them. This is indicative of huge demand and reflects strong investor confidence in the future prospects of the company.

2. CPI(M) Leader Sitaram Yechury Dies at 72

Renowned CPI-M leader and former general secretary Sitaram Yechury died on Thursday, September 12, 2024, after being admitted on August 19 to AIIMS Delhi due to severe pneumonia-like symptoms. At an age of 72 years, Yechury died at 3:03 p.m. as medical professionals could not save him despite their best efforts.

Since then, the political world has paid glowing tributes to the contribution of Yechury. The death of Yechury is considered a big loss not just for the Communist Party of India-Marxist but for the broader Left movement. A voice of reason and a committed ideologue, he commanded respect across party lines. Tributes flowed in from none other than President Droupadi Murmu, who termed him a “distinct and influential voice,” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who praised the politician for his ability to connect with people across the political divide and his efficiency as a Parliamentarian.

3. West Bengal Doctors Refuse Meeting With Mamata Banerjee Without Livestreaming

In a dramatic standoff at Nabanna Sabhaghar in West Bengal on Thursday, striking resident doctors from state-run hospitals refused to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee unless the meeting was being livestreamed. This dispute cropped up amid protests sparked off by the rape and murder of a doctor at the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Doctors wanted the meeting to be streamed, which the government refused to do on grounds of the case being subjudice. When the Chief Minister waited for two hours at the Secretariat, she left and briefed the press about the issue. She pointed out how she had tried to get the issue resolved several times over the last few days and was not able to do so.

4. Watch the Trailer for ‘The Last Dance’ – The Final Venom Battle Has Been Unleashed: Tom Hardy Goes Full Action Hero

The Venom: The Last Dance trailer has just dropped, and it seems like this will mark Tom Hardy’s last dance with the iconic anti-hero. The third movie in the Venom franchise brings in new villains, apparently of extraterrestrial origin, hunting Venom to take him back from Earth.

If this is any indication, the hard-hitting action–combined with Hardy fighting these alien creatures mid-air, donning several disguises, and even taking a nose dive into deep waters in apparent homage to Tom Cruise’s high-octane action–the franchise will end with some heavy action sequences and an emotionally packed ending of the character arc.

5. Chennai Faces Widespread Power Outage After Fire at Manali Substation

A major fire at the Manali substation in North Chennai plunged large parts of the city into darkness on Thursday night. The incident resulted in an outage to thousands of homes, with affected residents taking to social media to both share frustrations and humour alike about the outage.

The fire, according to Rajesh Lakhani, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), was probably due to malfunction of equipment and not an overload, considering demand for power was lesser than usual during the season. Restoration work is presently underway and according to an update from the company, 50% of the city’s power, including areas such as RA Puram and Mylapore, has already been restored.

7. Kishkinda Kaandam Movie Review: A Slow-Burn Thriller with Emotional Depth

Kishkinda Kaandam, starring Asif Ali, is winning hearts with its intelligent scripting and touching emotional bond. The story travels through the lives of its characters Ajayan, his indifferent father, and Aparna, who enters their world under mysterious circumstances. This film trails behind a missing revolver, a lost child, and a forest full of monkeys into an action-packed yet warm storyline.

The story gradually unwinds as it whisks the audiences in a kaleidoscope of emotions from empathy, love to mistrust, all of which has a really smart screenplay in slow motion. Music by Mujeeb Majeed and editing by Sooraj ES elevate the experience to a notch. Though deliberateness in pace does not lag at any point in the film.

12. Berlin Movie Review: A Slow-Burn Spy Thriller Set in the ’90s

Spy thriller Berlin by Atul Sabharwal sends you back in time to 1993. The setting is Delhi, and only one interrogation room builds tension-a slow-burning kind that grips the audience from the beginning till the end. The film takes painstaking detail in the ’90s-from the appearance of Russian President Boris Yeltsin on TV to references of Joe Biden as a senator.

Berlin with nods to Delhi’s Brutalist architecture and a sharp eye for period detail Berlin offers intrigue, nostalgia, and suspense. Few will have experienced.
