Citing the Sport and Rights Alliance (SRA), Amnesty International evaluated the impacts of the World Cup and warned of grave risks regarding the exploitation of migrant workers.

Amnesty International’s Steve Cockburn commented that “Awarding the World Cup to Saudi Arabia without firm commitments to reform poses a predictable human cost.” The report drew attention to whether Saudi Arabia would meet FIFA’s human rights standards and urged the organization to secure protections for labor and migrant rights.
