Delhi Ncr Heavy Torrential Rain, IMD Issues Alert For Mumbai and Surroundings

Heavy Torrential Rains Lash Parts of Delhi-NCR, and warning issue for  Mumbai, and Other Areas for heavy rain

The weather in different parts of India turned significant on Wednesday with continuing heavy rainfall in several areas. The India Meteorological Department or IMD forecasted some rain for Delhi on Wednesday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures touching about 34°C and 26°C, respectively.

On Wednesday, July 24, light rain showers were witnessed in Delhi and Noida. Showering of rain was witnessed in RK Puram and other areas nearby in South Delhi. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a “yellow” alert for the national capital for the next two days.

The weather department has warned of moderate to heavy rain in places like Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Baghpat due to the monsoon trough that is triggering scattered thunderstorms.

The national capital witnessed a sudden change in weather on Monday when heavy torrential rains drenched different parts of the city. The maximum temperature settled at 36.2°C, which is considered a notch above the normal average. The humidity was recorded at 68 per cent at 5:30 pm.

It reiterated its forecast of moderate rainfall on Wednesday, adding temperatures would see a high of 34°C and a low of 26°C. The Air Quality Index in Delhi was recorded at 93, falling in the “satisfactory” category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.

Delhi Traffic Police Advisories

The Delhi Traffic Police issued advisories, rerouting traffic from affected areas like Anand Parvat due to the waterlogging. It has asked commuters to avoid the Vir Banda Bairagi Marg completely as it is waterlogged at the Zakhira underpass.

In June, Delhi witnessed its highest rainfall in 88 years while the monsoon arrived a day ahead of schedule than what was predicted by private weather forecaster Skymet.

Isolated areas over Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Arunachal Pradesh are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Heavy rainfall is also predicted over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and other areas by the IMD.

IMD Issues Red Alert for Maharashtra Amid Heavy Rainfall

The IMD issued a red alert for parts of Maharashtra on July 24 due to continuous heavy rainfall, mainly affecting Mumbai and Thane. It has been experiencing persistent rains since early morning, causing waterlogging in the residential and road areas.

A high tide warning has been issued for the coastal areas of Mumbai, with more rains likely to continue on Wednesday. The city will largely be cloudy, with the temperature levels ranging between 24°C and 28°C.

The red alert for heavy rainfall extends to the entire stretch of the coastal areas of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, and West Madhya Pradesh. Some districts—Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, have been placed on an orange alert.

Teams of NDRF have been deployed in Vasai in Palghar, Thane, Ghatkopar, Powai in Kurla, Mahad in Raigad, Khed, Chiplun in Ratnagiri, Kudal in Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara, ahead of the heavy rainfall for rescue and relief operations.

The situation remains critical, with all concerned authorities and denizens now gearing up for more rainfall in the coming days. The IMD is monitoring the weather very closely, continuing to update and advise on weather conditions to ensure public safety.
